Hawg Wired v. J&M
« on: September 21, 2010, 05:03:20 PM »

Help.. I'm ready to upgrade the stereo on my '10 SESG and have narrowed it down to J&M 250W amp w/7.25" speakers or Hawg Wired PSC/DX system (150W amp). If you have experience with either system please let me know your thoughts...

Thanks

Love my J&M. If you buy go to Dr.V-twin for a great deal and great customer service. J&M has a new amp comming out soon. I think it's a 500 watt 4 channel. Check out some of the threads on this site for more info.

I have the Hawg Wired 150W amp and the DX504-70 speakers and I thought they sounded pretty good....until I heard the J&M 250w amp with the 7 1/4" speakers. If I keep this bike, I am changing to the J&M's over the winter or I will put them in the next bike.

Would that have been Scotr's bike at NRG? Don't know what system he has on his bike but it rocks. :bananarock:

It was rocking :2vrolijk_21:... I just danced to the music 'cause I figured whatever it was it wasn't going to work in my bike. :(

OK, dumb question here, I think.
Scotr's sounded great so with 500 watts as opposed to his 250 how much better will that sound?
Will it be louder? Will 500 be clearer? At speed (70 to 85) will it perform/ be clearer than the 250?
Will a 500 cost twice what a 250 does?
Is the 500 more quality or just more quantity?
I'm not concerned about the lowers but a 09 SEUC w/4 J&M speakers with 500 should rock.
If I'm going all out should I send the radio to Iron Cross to do any magic to power that J&M amp and speakers?
Inquiring minds want to know. And me to?

Stock radio does not need any work to drive the J&M amp. 250w going into 2 speakers is easy to hear at 80mph....it will just sound better since you have speakers behind you as well. Hopefully it won't be twice the price of the 250.

The big question is--are there any benefits to having the preamp ports installed in the radio and can the amp take advantage of them??? I don't know if their amps have pre amp in...if they are plug and play then they probably do not...but I could be wrong. Need to ask someone who has one or call J&M.

The J&M 250 watt amp does not have any pre amp low line inputs if I remember correctly from my installation.  It is just a plug and play, simple install.

I love the amp with the 7.25 speakers.  I usually get questions about it when people hear it, they can not believe how loud and clear it is.  I hear it just fine at 80mph and have more volume left if needed.

I can honestly run mine at half volume and it is loud at 80mph.  I run a Sirius mounted to the handlebar as I get 0 reception with radio stations.  The J & M is definitely an improvement and I am not a electronics guy at all.  (I do not even have cable TV) If you throw a CD in, holy cow, I can blast out all 6 bikes I am riding with.

Thanks everyone... it sounds like J&M is the way to go.

I've seen the threads on the J&M 500W amp but I dont think I will need 4 channels.

Dave29, FLSTFI Dave, & DABB.. do you use a full face helmet? If so is the radio loud/clear enough to hear a cruising speeds?

I have the full Hawg Wired set up and my only complaint is more volume as I run it pretty much all the way up most of the time. But then my ears are not the best. And I just like it loud.

I have the Hawg Wired four in the face $1500...

Don't waste your money, it ain't worth it! I would not recommend Hawg Wired for what it costs, It's way over priced and not that loud. Plus, why make you buy tweeter pods? Any company that sells Tweeter pods is admitting that the current speakers they sell are basically sub standard.

I am very disappointed with the system.

J&M is the best system by far, you won't be disappointed.  :2vrolijk_21:
