Cycle Gear Lifetime replacement battery?
« on: September 23, 2010, 11:41:00 AM »

Cycle Gear sells their "Megaboost" battery that carries a lifetime replacement. I bought one for my BMW R1200GS a month ago. It cost me $20 more than a Yuasa.

There is a Cycle Gear store 20 miles away so I don't have to deal with shipping. They claim that if you show up with a megaboost and they test it to be bad, you walk out with a new one for nada.

Anyone know a reason NOT to get one for the RK when I need to replace the original?

They don't exactly put out much information on the battery, so it's hard to tell if it's really worth the price or not.  Can't even tell if it's an old style wet cell or an AGM like the stock Harley battery.  If it's a wet cell, and it cost more than the stock battery, then that is how they're covering the lifetime replacement.  If you pay twice what it's worth up front, the free replacement doesn't really cost them anything.  Not saying that's the case, just that it's hard to tell what you're getting from the sparse details on their web site.

BTW, I don't see any listing for a Harley in the application sheet other than some 1970's era Sporty's.

Their application chart shows only 2 HD and both are antiques! A 1000cc and 1200cc!

All I know is that if you're planning on keeping that scooter forever, it could be a great deal (unless they go bottoms up)......I sure put a hurt on Penny's when they offered the lifetime warrenty on car batteries and I ended up getting quite a few over many, many years for my ole Porsche.  They finally got out of the bizness and contracted w/ Firestone to handle the warrenty claims.  Biggest hassle was keeping up w/ the paperwork for ea. 4 to 5 years replacement time.  spyder

Thanks for the heads-up. Sounds like a great deal.
