lowered floorboards
« on: September 23, 2010, 07:04:13 PM »

Doe anyone know of a manufacturer or independent who builds replacement floorboard brackets that lower the boards? I know there are several that extend them, but that is not what I want. I want them lowered . PM me if you know of someone please.

Be careful of your lean angle.  The boards are the "soft" point of contact..if you start lowering the brackets...you could come in jeopardy of hitting "hard" contact first vs. the movable floorboard.  The scraping of the floorboard and it's movement is there for a "warining" that you're coming into danger zone...once you go hard contact, it can get pretty dicey.

i had bracket extensions and had to remove them, the decreased lean angle caused me to drift over a double yellow line, thankfully no one was coming the other way.

No mention of model or year in your post, so this may or may not apply.  Look at the mounting points on the frame for the current board supports and see if they are already in the lowest of the available slots/holes.  If not, remove the mounting bolts and move the boards to the lowest holes.

Be very careful about lowering the boards beyond what the factory allows, especially if you have a lowered suspension.  As others have noted already, hard contact is quite likely.  And hard contact can kill you when it levers the wheels off the road.  If your legs are too long, look into one of the "Tall Boy" seats that lets you sit further back.

I have long Legs & have been dealing with this problem for years, so I came up with some New brackets that work great. I can Ride for hours & hours without having to take Leg stretching breaks. -- Checkout my new lowered, extended floorboard brackets for Harley Touring bikes @ http://foosproducts.com/index.html More leg room & positions than anything on the market - multiple positions in one kit - Lowers Floorboard 3/4" to 2 3/8" , Moves Floorboard back 3/8" Less than stock and up to 4" forward, all positions are 3/4" out (sideways)  I live in central California and spend allot of time in the Sierra Mountain Range & going over the Sierras to visit friends in Nevada. I'm a fairly aggressive rider & have never had a problem with scraping. I noticed that I usually take my curves 10-20 MPH faster than the posted curve speed If that helps. Thats with my Floorboards Lowered 2 1/4" & Forward 4".   I guess it all comes down to riding style.
