road king 2003 cvo starting problem

 :oops:recently i noticed that sometimes when i want to start her i hear a grinding metalnoise by starting, it is not always but sometimes. I said this to the dealer and he said that  it is normal if it is sometimes because of the cluth in the starter? Is this richt or shoud i search further on?

I have heard the same thing on my 03.  Just started happening.  Can't be good or normal.

Its not normal, the starter clutch is going out.

Sounds like spur/ring gear engagement if grinding noise.

I just got her bach and it is the starter clutch, they dont want to change it on warranty but i get the clutch for free but i will have to install it myself :soapbox: Any tips? is it difficult to do it myself.

wouldnt you be better off to just replace the starter? Of its the original, it's 8 yrs old.  Time to replace and you will be good to go,,  That's what I did. :)  No more noise.

You have to pull the primary cover to do it so be sure to get all the gaskets you need.
