You just need to make sure nothing is sitting against the ports. Jackets and stuff shouldn't have an impact, unless again, they are pressed up against the port impeding the flow of air.

I had the dealer add it to mine when I was in for the 1000 mile service. Listened to it on another bike first with a similar ( same ? ) stereo system. I think it is a noticeable improvement. 2011Road Glide Ultra.
Rob, I think the 2011's have the B amp, is that correct?  It should be stamped on the left side of the bike on the amp. If so, do you know if they reprogrammed the EQ too?  Just trying to quantity the 'noticable improvement'. Thanks man.

So in other words, if I have my pak jammed with stuff, like I usually do, the improvement is not that great. Correct? Or does it just require some free airflow to make an improvement? Thoughs?

Correct, but it is an improvement even with that. As magloo said, jackets and other SOFT materials (not leather) breath as well as long as they are not smashed against the ports.

I just looked and yes it is the B amp (B on the end of the part number). I didn't know until someone mentioned earlier about reprogramming that that could be done. I have an email into them now and will let you know. I hope they did not that way it should sound even Mo Better!

Rob, if you look at the last line of the port kit instructions, it says you must have the EQ reprogrammed to lower the low cut --> which in turn, gives you more low end performance.  If the dealer did this, it should be noted for sure, because they have to pull up on the programmer and their is a minimal charge.

Ultimately meaning, once they are done, it should sound even better!  let us know how it goes. Thanks!

Had the "firmware" Digital Tech II update done on the amp yesterday. Makes a noticeable difference in a good way. Rode home with a full face helmet on the super slab 100 miles and could hear the radio nice and clear and good tones all the way home.  :2vrolijk_21:

Well, thanks to all the good info on CVOHarley.com, I was able to get my HD technicians educated on the Bass Port Kit and the EQ Flash update for the Radio. I am now jammin' with the best of them as of yesterday afternoon.

My tech was amazed at the difference in sound, both loudness and quality (less distortion at higher volume). And both one of the salesmen and a shop service writer commented that it was the best sounding audio system they'd heard on a Harley. Maybe they were stroking me a bit but it does sure sound great.

Note: Installed on my '11 FLTRUSE and the tech measured 3 times and cut once ...  :P

The amps are the same, with the exception that, the B version has the JXXX connector so it can be reprogrammed. As such, out of the box, they should sound and perform exactly the same as the A version.

Read this thread for an indepth discussion on this all:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=52793.0
ok here is a question i have the 09 cvo ultra that has the amp which i think is only a 40 watt amp
mounted under the tour pak does  the new boom amp put out more amps and will it mount in the same place  because when i turn up the volume  on the radio it does not get any louder after just past half on the volume  bars

You have the A Version of the HO Amp. Same output, the only difference is the B Amp can be reprogrammed to lower the lows a bit with the porting kit.

What you need are better speakers. I'm running the same amp with the 7.25 front J&M"s and the matching rears and it makes a big improvement.

The CVO brochure only states that the FLTRUSE has: NEW Aplifier with customized equalization for BOOM! Audio.

But today I came across this in the H-D 2011 motorcycle catalog.  This page on the RG Ultra states that is has:  four-speaker 80W Harman/Kardon advanced audio system.
