Heated Grips
« on: October 04, 2010, 08:41:31 AM »

First time I turned on my heated grips on my 08 Coppertop, they will only work of setting 5 & 6.  1-4 do nothing. Worked fine end of last winter.  Any ideas?

Yes, they are failing. Pretty common problem that the MOCO could care less about.

That is what I suspected.  Hope it is covered under extended warranty.

Mine work great on my 06, never had a problem, they must have changed to a lower cost supplier.

Took my bike in yesterday for the heated hand grip problem.  They are covering under extended warranty and ordered both grips.

Anyone ever had a shock problem? Left grip only. Lay hand against switch housing and feel the tingle.

Put a multimeter on it and see what you get.  Out of curosity, check DC and AC - best if you have a meter that is True RMS.  If a high-end enough meter check the frequency.

You should not be able to feel a dc current, unless you have a lot flowing, then it would heat you up.  The variable temps of the grips might be accomplished using PWM, which would feel like a mild AC shock.

My left heated grip is on order (backorder)for heating problems. The dealer told me at the time of inspection that they have several that are causing shocks. He thought that might be the cause of the backorders. In any event , Harley is aware.
