RT Zumo 665 Installs
« on: October 04, 2010, 11:59:31 AM »

Bought a Road Tech Zumo 665 for the SESG2. Will use it mostly in the truck (winter is too long); occasionally on the bike on trips. Plan on using XM, some MP3s, Navigation, weather. Don't plan on using the Bluetooth right away--maybe down the road, though. Want to be able to get it on/off the bike quickly as I wouldn't leave it unattended for very long, if at all. Also, don't really want to do any fairing drilling or permanent mounting.

With the weather, you get overlays right on the map, correct? Any audible warnings?

I've seen Rheiner's set up on here and would like to go with something very close to that, except that without the apes, I don't have as much space on the handlebars for the brackets.

Thinking of trying something with this Kury bracket:

This RAM ball:

and this RAM bracket for both the 665 and the XM antenna (I know that the antenna needs to be a certain distance from the unit to function properly):

Does the cradle have to be left on the bike at all times because of the hard-wired power supply & HD radio connection? Or could I install so that when the unit is off the bike, the only thing left on the bike would be the Kury bracket/RAM ball assembly. If possible, I'd like to find an install method where that is the case.

Anybody have any additional advice or suggestions? Greatly appreciated. TIA.

The mount is hard wired for power inside the cowling and cables running from the GPS to the radio. It would be a real pain to try and remove the mount from the bike. You would have to cut the wires comming from themount and install quick disconnects at the mounts location or close to it. Like I said a real PITA.

But if you come up with some thing that work post it on this forum as others may be interested.
