For those of you that followed my ordeal in the thread "Disgusted", here's an update.
I got my new motor installed (courtesy of MoCo) and was amazed at the different noises coming from it. Sounds like a colander full of wire brushes with a couple of ball bearings swishing around. Dealer said ride it. (sound familiar?) After it warms up it has an annoying "clicking, clacking, ticking" coming from somewhere. I call it my Rice Krispies Motor. Ass't Service Manager suggested I get a radio to drown out the noises or change pipes. I kind of laughed and told him to go ahead and install them on his dime.
End of discussion. I made a decision to stop complaining about these noises and in formed the dealership that I would learn to "love and embrace these as my own and they would not be allowed to listen to or discuss my noises until such time as a different noise appears on the audible horizon!"
Now have 2500 miles on the motor with 1700 since an oil change and it seems to be using some oil. No where near as much as the old motor but about 1/2 quart so far.
Passed this along to dealer and got the "quart in a thousand miles" B.S. General Manager says "ride the hell out of it it's under warranty".
I guess the point of this post is that I am about 85% satisfied with the motor and since I finally got what I was after maybe I should quit crying, however that bad taste is still lingering about the whole situation.
Thanks for listening,
Shortdog
Shortdog,
I disagree with you. Our expectations should never be lowered, just because the Manufacturer and its representative, (the Stealer), has less than acceptable standards for Customer Satisfaction, and little or no knowledge of the solution to the problem. Personally, I've been fortunate in that I haven't had any Warranty issues with any of my Harleys, or my Builds. Warranty is workmanship and material. It does not cover worn out, jerked out or run dry of oil. The majorty of failures on my Harleys, have been caused by abuse. However, I deal with Manufacturers in the Commercial Truck Industry, and their less than reliable products, everyday. It's an ongoing battle. I do not, and will not, accept their rules of play designed by bean counters. IMO, they are all alike, in this modern era. Profits before Customer Satisfaction. If I, or we, don't stand up to these Corporate whores, it will continually get worse. Dealers, no matter what they represent, must provide reliable Service. Absent Service, the chickens WILL come home to roost, and there will be NO Sales. If I accept what the Dealer decides is an acceptable fix, when I know in my heart he is avoiding the issue, then I have compromised my standards. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. I don't know you, personally, but obviously you're like all of us on this Site. We're proud of our Harleys. HUBBARD can't be 85% proud. I have to be 100% proud. I'd bet you're cut from the same bolt of cloth. There endeth the lesson. Good Luck!
