Corbin Classic Solo- Who owns it and what do you think?
« on: October 12, 2010, 12:59:49 AM »

Finally I'm getting in some long rides on my SERG but the stock seat is killing my butt, and that gap at the tank is an eye sore too. I really like the look of the Corbin Classic Solo but I know nothing about the seat. What do you who have the seat think of it, especially the fit and the comfort.

Fit is second to none.

Comfort?  To the touch, the Corbin is the hardest seat I've ever laid my hand on.  However, it's also the most comfortable long distance seat I've ever rode!   I can't explain it.  I can only tell you that since Vanamal let me try his Corbin Classic Solo a few years back, it's never came off of my bike and I sold all the seats that I had in my garage.  I ride long distance often and no loger have any of the issues I had with all the other seats.......no monkey butt, no sweating, no itch, no pain, no hot pressure points......it's all gone.  A very pricey seat but what's your comfort worth?  :2vrolijk_21:

The Classic Solo is the most common model because it's so versatile.  Add the touring pillion and you have a regular, two up, full size seat.  Remove the pillion and you have the classic solo cruiser look.

JCZ, thanks for the feedback. Do you have the back rest too and how is it. Do they just fit into a bracket in the seat or is there additional hardware required?

i really like my corbin solo. :2vrolijk_21:

the backrest works great, it slides in the seat itself, no other hardware needed.

the heat option is a good thing also. :orange:

Yes, we both have the rider's backrest as well as the solo backrest on the tour pack (if you don't have the "close reach seat, it supports your upper body on the long hauls)......click on this link to see it    http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=54514.msg787422#msg787422

The heater is money well spent, too! :2vrolijk_21:

Following JCZ's high recommendation I pulled the trigger too.

Best purchase made to date.  4000 miles in 10 days of which 1800 in 2.5 days all of which could not have been done with the stock seat.  Corbin had my vote - back rest is great and it's great without also.

Cheers

Any negatives about this seat that I should be aware of?

Corbin, what a great difference? 2800 mi in 5 days, many 12 hour days. Way more comfortable than the stock seat. Didn't think I'd need a backrest but a very good investment as well.

Get dark colored stitching.

I need one for my '05 RK Custom.

IMO not with the product.  Great fit, great product.
Many comments here on slipping shipping time and general comms from Corbin HQ that sucks.  That said, bought mine through a good distributor in UK and had it in good time.  Sure there's a few here that can help you by-pass the possible issues.

Cheers

Poor customer service....especially if you deal directly with them.  I'd suggest contacting Jim (hd-dude on this forum).....he works all the issues out, up front. :2vrolijk_21:

My experiences have been different. I'm lucky enough to be minutes from  the Ormond Beach Store (Just north of Daytona). The Fella I usually deal with has done a great job taking care of any issues I've had.  I'm on my 8th Corbin seat now and I couldn't be happier. I've had one on all the bikes I've owned. I have most mostly Solo seats. My wife rides her own usually and I'm a big fan of exposing the rear fender...  My most recent seat was a Dual Touring (Heated) for my Limited. Awsome seat!  I'll never buy another seat without heat!

Quality control wise, I've had a couple build issues.  Being such a high priced saddle I would have expected a little more attention to detail. However, they have always made everything right so it's hard to complain.

When in town, ask for Serjio.  He'll take good care of you!

I just returned from Daytona and the main purpose for the trip was to go to Corbin and get a seat and if needed fitted for me. Like yourself I was riding more and the stock seat was terrible. The first day I rode the Dual Tour Saddle and the seat was not good for me. It pushed me way forward and I was crowding the tank and legs were in a bad position. The next day I had the guys at Corbin install the Solo with the pillion on the rear. It took me a few minutes to think I DON'T WANT a "solo" seat when we ride 2 up most of time. WAS I WRONG!!! The seat was perfect for me right out of the gate. I'm 6'3 and I needed to drop and move back a touch to make it all perfect and the seat did it. Obviously she loved the dual tour but after trying the pillion and riding it for a few hours we went back and Vincent and the guys shaved her seat down about 3/4" and recovered it and guys IT IS PERFECT!! $600 and worth the trip. I also have the chopped torurpac and the king tour pac and will be shipping the back pads off of both and Corbin will recover to match the seats. Met Mike Corbin and he was a super guy as well.
