Outer Banks?
« on: October 14, 2010, 07:48:25 AM »

In early November my wife & I are attending a wedding in Maryland and are considering taking the bikes to possibly ride to Nags Head and Hatteras afterwards.

Just wondering if this is the right time to be going to the Outer Banks???  What kind of weather can we expect at that time of year?

Are there any rallies or events of interest happening in the south east in November?  Just in case the weather on the coast doesn't cooperate.

Thanks in advance for your advise and suggestions, which are very much appreciated.

Take care,
Grizzly

Weather is unpredictable until the week before...I have been there at the end of November and had 50-70 degree weather, yet one year it was 38-44 degrees. I hope that you enjoy the ride, wherever you may choose...

I've done that ride before,  it's a good ride and lots of interesting sights and pubs in the area.  November just might be pretty cold there for riding.  Remember you are right at the coast with the wind blowing off the water it can get brutal.

Make yourself aware of the (ferry schedules).  If you go too late, and miss a ferry you can get stuck with no place to stay.  Either a long ride back out or sleep on the ground.  One time, we caught the last available motel room in the area.

Do NOT miss out on Manteo and the brewpub Weeping Radish as I recall. :drink:

Don't forget to check out Kill Devils Hill where the Wright Brothers flew the very first plane.  The Carolina coast is beautiful but the weather at that time can be unpredictable!!!  Prepare for anything. Luckily no hurricanes at that time of year!!!  Bubba Love said that!!!

What they said. If you get hungry just short of the outer banks stop at BJ's restaurant. Great food there. If the weather is not so good you can visit Chincoteague and Wallops Island just over the state line from Maryland.
Then there is the Marnier’s museum and Nauticus if you get to the Hampton Roads area, all of which you can look up on the net. Ferry will not be a problem unless you go to or through Ocracoke. If so you will need to watch your time this time of year. Accommodations are a bit scarce in Swan Quarter or Cedar. Great riding from Swan Quarter to route 64. I love riding out that way!

I did that trip back in May of 1982. The weather was great and I had on helluva good time. There can be a lot of bugs depending on the time of year.
