A few things were in very short supply; cars, people, and gas stops. We found a small gas station still open right when we needed it. The pumps were a few generations old but when you need to fill up, any pump is the right pump.

I can't overemphasize how beautiful this stretch was. I would ride this 100 miles every weekend if it weren't 300 miles away.

Pulled into Marathon, Ont. for another gas stop and a break for hot chocolate and onion rings at the local A&W. Beautiful bay views from the town. It reminded me of the town from the movie Jaws.

From Marathon, the road headed inland through forrest land. Some nice hilly terrain with small lakes every few miles. Another calm day provided for beautiful reflections of the trees and landscape in the calm waters. Could have spent hours taking photos!

Ended up late in the afternoon in the little town of Wawa, Ont., famous for the Wawa goose!

Stayed Saturday night in Wawa at the High Falls Motel and cabins. Nice spot about 5 miles south of town. Friendly owners and good clean lodging. Had dinner just down the road at the Kinniwabi Pines restaurant. This was the culinary surprise of the trip! Three brothers from Trinidad run the place and the menu has selections from several cuisines. I had a dish called Rouladen that was German and Ray had Jamaican chicken. Both were excellent. Would highly recommend this place to any who pass by. We spoke with one of the brothers for about 45 minutes during and after dinner. Fascinating story as to how they got to Wawa. Would not have expected to find a restaurant of this quality in a town of 4,000!

Thanks so much for posting this!  I did this tour with a buddy several years ago.  I was riding a Beemer at the time so no CVO pictures.  Maybe I need to plan to do it again!  ;D

Sunday morning was clear but the temps were around 35 degrees so it was going to be chilly to start out. Bikes had a nice coating of moisture on them. At least it makes it easy to get the bugs off the windshield!

Rode south about 100 miles, mostly along the lakeshore. More stunning scenery, rolling hills, beautiful bays, waterfalls and inland lakes. Even saw a wolf run across the road. We would go up hills into little fog patches and the windshields and visors would immediately fog up. My heated gear was not working properly. I found out later the polarity was reversed causing the temp to stay permanently on high! Actually burned my knuckles, blisters cropped up the next day.

When we were nearly out of gas, we stumbled upon our next surprise attraction, the Agawa Indian store. We stopped for gas as it was the only open station for 100 miles and were pleasantly surprised to find 3 stores that amounted to Ontario's version of Wall Drug. Ray got some hot coffee and I got my wife a pair of mukluks for the cold Minnesota winter to come. If you take this trip, you really have to stop by this place for a visit. They have a wood carving store that has some amazing pieces! Well worth the time ( and $'s) spent!

Whenever we would pass a rock outcropping along the highway there were almost always these stacks of stones on a flat spot on the outcropping. We finally asked the locals what they were and got a nice history lesson about the Inukshuk. Here's a link for those interested:

We decided on the fly to head south to Mickinaw City because we wanted to cross the famous bridge and stop at the HD store (T-Shirt shop). This changed our route from following the south shore of Superior to Marquette, MI to following the north shore of Lake Michigan.

The bridge and Mackinaw City were definitely worth the detour!
