Life After Recall
« on: October 18, 2010, 01:59:49 PM »

The 2007/2008 CVO's with the 110 had a recall.  The question is did the recall fix the issues with the 110 engine or is it still a problem?

The problems were mostly 07 and 08 110's. If the recall was done correctly all should be fine. You don't hear too much about 09 and later 110's leaking like the earlier ones did.

Seventh version of the head gasket masks the inherent design issues.

I had the recall done the day of the first wave shipment of new heads to Ca. and have had no further head gasket leaks 39K miles later. Recall was done at 19K miles (knock on wood). Unfortunatly it didn't address the replacements I had to have after the recall: Primary chain, compensator, 2 inner primary bearings, clutch, starter clutch, radio and base gaskets. But it's still TICKING away  ;D

What is the purpose of this thread, to determine if the MoCo has finally fixed the issues on the latest models, or are you interested in buying an '07/'08 CVO and wondering if the Product Enhancement Program (it wasn't a recall) eliminated the problems?

Current models seem to be doing OK with regard to the main concerns that the enhancement program dealt with, oil leaks and ACR failures.  Unfortunately those weren't and aren't the only issues with the engines.

As for the '07/'08 bikes that had the program performed, some have had no further leaks or ACR failures, and others have had multiple failures.  That probably has as much to do with the dealership personnel doing the work as it does with the parts involved.

I have an '08 SEUC.  No problems before or after the recall (enhancement) program work was performed.  A friend of mine has an '07.  He had the leak at around 7K miles, had the new gaskets etc. installed and has had no further problems.  He now has over 30K on his bike; I have 23K on mine.

Yes I am interested in 08 FXDSE2 Screamin Eagle Dyna.  That is the last year for that CVO.

Before you make a decision on a particular bike, you might want to have a dealer run the VIN to see if the "110 enhancement" program was performed.  There was a cutoff date in the bulletin (I'm attaching a copy), but if a particular bike your interested in hasn't been updated you might still be able to get H-D to cover it.  You might also find that the bike you're interested in was built after the upgrades were put into production, and therefore you don't need the enhancement.

Thanks.  Would anyone happen to know the manufacturing date when they started the modification fix on the 08?

I think the real question you're asking is "after what VIN was the Product Enhancement integrated into the production"?
I'm not sure that anyone will really know the answer to that question. It is however a moot point so long as the VIN is verified by a dealer as having been completed. If you are buying from a dealer, while I certainly would confirm, I would safely say it has been done.

May 14th 2008 was the date the updates were included in production, as noted in the Service Bulletin.  If you have a dealer check the VIN on the Harley net, it will show a build date and will also indicate whether the program applies to that particular bike.
