Extreme heat in CVO Ultra Electra Glide
« on: October 19, 2010, 05:55:11 PM »

I had Extreme heat in my 2011 CVO Ultra Electra Glide. Solved it for the most part by replacing the headers with a Vance and Hines double crossover header and enriching the fuel mixture. On the dyno it put out 104.67 foot pounds of torque. I understand that is pretty good. At least it reduced the heat by alot. :apple:

I assume that the fuel/timing was changed, along with the exhaust, while dyno tuning?? :)

What did you use to use to change the timing and make it richer?

Did all that on my 08...still too hot for the wife and me when temps are over 90 ambient.  Found the solution though, bought a 96 softail with an 80-in Evo motor, cool as a cuke...oil temp never goes over 200 deg!  So I run the Evo in hot weather instead!

When I had the headers updated with the Vance and Hines, they put it on the Dyno and adjusted the mixture, timing, with the "super tuner." the tuner was about $450 and it is set for my bike only. The HD techs said to take it with me to the mountains if I need to retune for the altitude. That reduced the heat by a factor of 4 out of 5. Where the heat on the right side coming from the catalytic converter was intolerable, now it is great. Get rid of the converter. If the daytime temps are 100 and above, i will take my 03 Heritage.

I have a 2010 EGC that I'm looking to do about exactly what you have done. Remove the heat, get a little sound (not to much) and get it to run a bit richer at least out of closed loop.
I think over 104 LBS of TQ is good and would be happy with that.

Thanks

Al, what I did reduced the heat that was almost intolerable to un-noticed if the day temp is below 85.
