Scraping Boards now.
« on: March 18, 2006, 01:26:06 AM »

Well I have now noticed that I scrape my boards a plenty since the new frame replacement. I am not sure if it is because it is somehowe set up differently or if perhaps as I get more miles logged on the bike I am being more aggresive in cornering with it, but I doubt the latter. It seems to scrape em on every curve two up............or maybe the lil mrs and I have each gained alot of offseason weight, I hope thats not the problem........... Find another Fatboy and measure from where it rubs to the ground.

Time to move to forward controls and pegs.  I've had the same issue with scraping the footboards.  Can't go quite as fast as I like in the twisty's :o

I agree.  I scrape the floorboards every ride.  I now run with my toes pointed at about a 45* angle outward on the boards and my boot will rub just before the boards do.  Not good for the boots but I like doing it.  That way if I need more lean, I now I'm another degree away from rubbing the boards.  Then it is no surprize when you here that metal grind.........

Here's a pic of Aussie Mike's bike without the footboards.  The pipes he used here required he move to forward controls and pegs.

I went thru this about 6 months ago see my old thread
http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1127608549
I thought it was a bit to do with our roads over here, but the simple fact is a 220lb bloke (not to mention 2 up) on a Fatboy that is factory lowered looks great but has very limited lean angle. Great on the highway but f*@#ed when it comes to any tight twisty curves especially if there is any bumps in the road.
Even with my 2 inch over forks (standard softail length) forward controls & lifting the rear 3/4inch I still have the ocassional scrape ( like on Saturday my pipes scraped going around a "Roundabout")

cheers

All good down here, that was about 300 miles up north, But yeah they sure copped it hard, You blokes are also very familiar with cyclones, not the sort of places ya should hang out at.

Cheers

My Fatboy(which I sold to get my SERK) had some motor work but my SERK is basically stock.
