Adding passing lights...
« on: October 22, 2010, 09:23:02 PM »

Can anyone tell me exactly what I need to buy in order to add HD passing lights to my 2010 FLHXSE ?  I'm pretty sure I need the auxiliary light bracket kit #69818-06 and the bulbs, but do I need the turn signals, or do I reuse the turn signals already on the bike ??

Thanks,

PG

You have to replace them with ones like come on the classics and ultra classics. They mount to the driving light bar. The flhx turn signals have a different mounting setup. Next time you are at a dealership look at them and you will see the difference.

You do not need to buy new turn signals. I bought the same kit. The instructions note how to reuse the turn signal assemblies. You need the custom aux light kit (69818-06) and then pick the style of bulb. The installation was a little more difficult on my 2011. The wiring harness for the 2011 FLHXSE2 does NOT include the wires for aux lights in the main harness as the non-CVO touring bikes. I don't know if its the same for a 2010. I had to do a little more wiring work than the instructions indicated. Still pretty simple though and it really looks good when complete. Plus you are brighter which is always a good thing. from the instructions....

Thank you SO much David G.

I have to add this because this forum is generally so informative and has given me so many helpful ideas and instructions - PLEASE - guys, if you don't have actual experince in the area someone is asking about, probably better not to reply.  It gets pretty confusing when the replies disagree with each other.

Thanks again,

Humm. I was at the dealer on Saturday going over the accessories that I will be putting on my ride when it arrives and when we went over the Auxiliary Lighting Kit #69818-06 I was told that the turn signals that come with the bike will NOT mount onto this kit. Since I wanted the same turn signals that are on the bike I had to get the CUST.PASS LAMP BRKT/TURN SIGNAL KIT, SMK LENS/AMB BULB #69228-04. Just wondering if anyone knows if the lights that I am buying are the same part number as the ones that come with the bike.

I can tell you they absolutely work. I installed mine three weeks ago with no problems. Its also very clear in the instructions. So whoever is telling you that is WRONG.

But the replacement part number is 73371-10 from the parts manual. Don't know what is in the kit. It's up to you but I'd get your money back on that kit they sold you. They are selling you something you don't need.

If you want to add the chrome wind deflectors (fork mounted) you have to use the passing lamps for the stock electra glide--these parts are not in the catalog--you will have to get the part #'s from the specific parts book for electra glide.  IMHO this setup looks good, like a motorcycle should!  Without passing lamps the fairing has too much empty space.
