Chrome Headlight Bezel
« on: October 24, 2010, 02:20:58 PM »

Having those Chromosomes that makes me a Chromoholic is bad.

Two weekends ago, I rode over to RenoHD while trying to test the new wind deflector and in a display case they had a Hell's Foundry Chrome Headlight Bezel on display.

http://secure.netsolhost.com/177731.179935/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=HF&Product_Code=HFFLTHSC&Category_Code=RoadGlideHeadlightTrim

So, I ask Tim to let me see it up close.  It had some mold dimples (imperfections) in it that I really didn't like for the price.  Which was really pricey!  Same price as the mail-order without shipping.  But it is chrome!

I walk it out to WLDTHG and hold it up in place and I'm thinking on the faster Silver SERG (SSERG) this is cool.  I like it.  (Chromosones talking)

But, I saw those imperfections before I did that so, this one just wasn't right.

Home I go and start doing some online data gathering.  Frustration number two shows up when I find some dialog on CVO Harley Site under the other CVO Road Glide blog.  I had to use the search function to find that!  Argggh!

So, has anyone got experience with this chromed piece of plastic?  How's it holding up?

Dodge Ram trucks used "Chrome-clad" wheels (chrome plated plastic covers on the aluminum wheels) for years. All exterior emblems are chromed plastic on cars/trucks too. Honda uses chromed plastic all over their bikes.

Gentlemen, repeat after me... "My name is [inserat name] and I am a chromoholic."  Not sure if it looks good but $250 for a chromed piece of plastic?   :nixweiss:   :huepfenlol2:   :huepfenlol2:   :nixweiss:

I had posted that I had been running the bezel and it was holding up well.  I was thinking about the older bezel with the led turn signals built in.  After I realized my mistake, I couldn't figure out how to completely delete the entire post, hence the "disregard" post.

I use Chromemasters and they do a good job, talked to them at Biketoberfest this year, good people. But if they can not do plastic I am pretty sure Advanced Plating in Nashville does.

Oh, the 12 steps program; 1. We admit we are powerless over our ... Chrome?  Nah.

I'm leaning towards 250 being a bit harsh for shiny.  But,....

So, how about you post what hook up ya get with the plating shop.

I called Advanced today they do not plate plastic  It would be great to find someone that would plate the stock bezel for us chromefreaks  and start an exchange program

Guess we are going to have to get a auto restoration magazine and look for the people who chrome the interior plastic parts in the restoration business. I have seen some of it and it looked good, just never thought to ask who they had do it. I had always thought Advanced did it, guess that is what I get for thinking.

$175.00/pint, it might be cost effective if we could get a group activity with a professional.

However, with my rattlecan abilities, I suspect I'd be leaning toward RenoHD's $250 option.
