Setup my 04
« on: October 31, 2010, 10:37:03 AM »

I'm sure this has been addressed many times before but any new info appreciated. Getting my 2004 1800 mile stock O/B SEEG this week. I am just about broke having paid cash for the bike and now adding shipping, reg and TAX. What do you all suggest for slip ons???? not too loud, but loud enough. I had V&H regular ovals on my 07 Street Glide and enjoyed them. Also, do you need to do a download on that bike?? Is it already in Stage ! or do I need to do the download and change out the airfilter. As I said, I'm about in the poorhouse, so trying to be somewhat economical, money is a factor. I'm certainly no mechanic. Any help is appreciated    ???

I'd leave it alone till I had some $$$$ to burn.  Air cleaner, good exhaust system, and a tuner with set up will run about 1500.  There are may choices for all 3. TTS Mastertunes are popular here as well the many different exhaust ststems that are available. I have a Sreaming Eagle air filter that seems to work okay. The exhaust is an item you will have to hear and read about. That's like asking someone what kind of car do want to drive,,  Good luck.

Thanks Stu, I agree completely, and will put the $$ in down the road. I understand what your saying about slip ons re sound, I just wasn't sure if some slip ons worked better than others with the 103. When it comes to sound I'm a bit like a little kid, nothing I find sillier than a Harley that makes no sound, just quietly purrs along with its stock pipes. I will change them to the tune of 4 to 5 hundred, thats on the cheap for me. Ya see, I  had a new 04 Roadking  that the dealer did a stage 1 on w/ screamin eagle pipes, aircleaner, (not sure if there was a download involved) ran great, sounded good too. I will go that route now, just need to know what is feassable. Down the road I'll put a tuner and a set of true duals $$$$$$$$$$ but for now just wondering what was essential with the slip ons......went to my local Harley dealer, but left quite unimpressed with their knowledge or choices, they were pushing Rush and of course Screaming Eagle. He said there was already a stage 1 on the bike in  regards to the air cleaner and no download required, but I find they are not always as knowing as they try and appear. Found a small shop up the road that I liked much better, he prefers V & H but suggested I wait and bring the bike up when I get it and see exactly what we have(a suggestion I agreed with 100%, though not suggested by my "friends" at the local H/D)  at any rate, any addtl info appreciated, as knowledge is power,.. thanks again

I personally don't like it too loud. If you do, people on here like the D&D Fatcat.  Vance & Hines makes some good systems too. Tho I don't care for them anymore, Rinehart TD's have been popular for years.  The TTS is a great product to for tuning. That's what I have.  On an 04, the true duals look great and work well.  Your call my friend. You have lots to think about. Did you get a pumpkin or huckleberry?

Thanks again Stu. I uploaded a photo of my bike (as it was right before being loaded on the truck) for my profile. Still not sure what to do after slip ons regarding an aircleaner change , ect...but I do appreciate the input. One thing for sure, I do have alot to think about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Is free shipping from Jenny too much to ask ?? As I said, did not care for Rossmeyer's, I had to beat them up to get 10% off the parts guy, though he was decent. Went to ask service a question and that ended my relationship with them. Guy acted like he was doing me a favor and I was stupid. I may be dumb, but I''m certainly not stupid

They do charge for ups... but there is no sales tax either... so that kind of offsets the shipping charges.   Just get a parts catalogue and order away.   She sends its right out to you and it's really easy shopping. You can do a search for her on here.. :2vrolijk_21:

I found out this weekend that my stock SE103 runs just fine on regular gas, that's all the station had.  As strong as it runs and knowing that it won't ping on regular has made me decide to leave it alone and just keep an eye on the tensioners.
