milling cvo 103 heads
« on: November 02, 2010, 07:24:30 PM »

First off I would like to say hi as I am new to the site, but have been reading it for sometime now and have learned alot for you guys.  I bought my 05 SEEG in Sept. 09.  Since then I have added a PCV w/autotune, Pro-Pipe, and Doherty Power Pacc.  I just recently changed to Redshift 577 gear drive cams and kuryakn 57mm TB.  I never liked where the power was with the 253's.  The bike has more power down lower than it did,  but I'm thinking it will do alot better with more compression.  I talked to a guy that worked for Screamin' Eagle when I was in Daytona in Feb..  He told me that I could mill up to .060 of my heads to raise the compression.  Just wondering if any of you guys have done this or if I should just save the money and have the heads done by a reputable head porter like hillside, big boyz or one of the others.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I mill them all the time
This only applies to using stock flatops and they don't shed CCs as fast as a bathtub head. Most of these we do get pistons changed to accomodate the large 98cc head.

Is it possible to get them down to around 86 or 87 cc?  If so that would make my compression 10.1 with the stock pistons.

Possible yes
You will be milling into fins at that point and the motor mounts and the intake fit are screwed and need to be fixed.

Thanks for the info Don. Sounds like a piston change would be better than milling the heads that much.  Any suggestions on that or will they have to be custom?

Do some digging and find a set oF SE 10.5 pistons, they are still on the shelf collecting dust at some dealers. Discontinued. Second choice the late model 10.5 SE piston for the ACR 110 head, have to cut the pin boss for rod clearance no biggee

I think you will find that .050" - .060" will put you in the 86 - 87 cc range, with absolutly NO induction fitment problems.

This is what I was told by Screamin' Eagle.  Have you personally done a set like this?

John Sachs is a smart man, he has done many. You can take his info to the bank.

Personally I have not taken any down that far and opted to use pistons in every case, except when just equalizing CCs. I assumed with the added CC with valve work and the open chamber it would take more cut. I appologize for the wrong info.

To answer your last question
22484-04 are .005 OS
22485-04 are .010 OS
These are for the 103+ heads and with a little head change work great. Last one made 108hp and 121TQ with a very flat torque curve Wood low lift 408 cam.

Thanks for the info John and Don.  I'll probably try milling the heads as I can get it done locally and wil be the cheapest way to raise the compresion.
