How do you Protect paint when wrenching?
« on: November 09, 2010, 09:25:56 AM »

How do you guys protect your bike's paint and chrome when doing mechanical work?
I have fender protection for my Camaro.  I have seen some pics where someone placed a blanket on the tank.
I would like to see what forum members do.

Thank You

I sometimes use clean microfiber or terry cloth towels, the MoCo markets tank and fender protectors, but I am sure they are WAYYYYY too expensive like most of thier products.  :2vrolijk_21:

In addition to the above fender and tank protection, my local HD shop requires techs to use low tack painter's tape, e.g. on the sides of the front fender when removing front calipers on Touring models and others.  I've adopted that practice,; remove ring, watch, belt, etc. to avoid scratching the paint; and, don't handle parts with tools in hand.

put towels over everything, wear gloves and glasses - and don't forget to brush your teeth before entering the garage  ;)

*L...OK now I know I am going over the top...
What brought ihis up is ...I was removing the seat and the seat heater wire needed disconnected....well I almost scratched the tank with the metal tounge.  I feel that tank and fender protection is cheap portection.
