According to Harley, that's just normal wear and tear, and therefore nothing to worry about.

You've fallen off the pedastal I've had you on for five years Jerry. I expected a serious post from you on this one. Well, I've always said that other than our men and women at arms, my only hero was Secretariat and I guess that's still a true statement.

I've covered burns like that with KC Masterpiece. Somebody always seems to want it then.  :-\

So in keeping with the thought that this is a motorcycle forum and not The Comedy Store on The Improv, what did this salvage vehicle finally sell for ? Also, is anybody interested in discussing how you could buy a salvage title vehicle and deal with it ? I mean, I'm not gonna tell anyone what they can or can't say, but this is a subject worth of discussion for anyone with above average mechanical ability. If that's the intent of the thread then I'd like to participate. If it's not, I'll shut up.

Winning Bid - US $4,100.00

On the serious side my number one concern in regards to fire would be if the annealing of the steel in the framing is compromised. You can cosmetically hide most effects of the fire. Is there a way to test the framing for annealing/brittleness risks. I wouldn't want to be riding on a brittle frame that could snap. Are there regulations/controls protecting a buyer from this risk? I know metal can be tested but not sure how besides XRay for cracks.

The owner wanting to minimize his losses or maximize his gains could just say "It'll be alright it didn't get that hot" but how do we really know how hot is too hot? Red hot, blue hot, ???

Depending on your state (you live in, not your mind) many insurance companies will not insure a salvage vehicle.  I wouldn't have spent $4100 for this one.  Not when you can buy a new moter and tranny for ~$6000 or so.  Nothing else appears to be useable, if even that is.  Of course if all you're building is a burnout bike, cheap one to have there.

Once it's all restored and your reeling from the cost of that and feeling "pretty good about it" you decide to get on the throttle... 100...110...is she going to hold? NOT I SAID THE FATMAN!!!!

They state light fire damage, what does heavy damage look like?  Clean and paint, come on!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Harley-Davidson-Touring-Harley-Davidson-Street-Glide-2010-SALVAGE-REPAIRABLE-/170563947838?pt=US_motorcycles&hash=item27b6674d3e
I guess with heavy fire damage the tires would have burnt off the rims!!!! RUN! FOREST! RUN!

I've decided the burnt amber paint on my SEUC is "heat resistant" by design from the factory as a standard option coupled with the 110....I should never have to be concerned with my bike being in this situation... :2vrolijk_21:
