New to the board and new to Harley
« on: November 10, 2010, 11:35:43 AM »

Just found out today how great a Harley is and how well Harley stands behind there product. They don’t. Bought a new 2009 fat bob cvo 2 weeks ago. Since then the fuel gauge has fallen out twice, the seal on the master cylinder is defective, and now the battery wont hold a charge. All these thing should have been fixed before delivery but were not and now in order to get them fixed I have to be out of pocket to get them repaired. For all those who are considering buying what you would think would be Harleys pride in joy , their best made , hand built bikes..Dont ...buy something else. I have never regretted buying anything as much as I am regretting buying a Harley. They don’t stand behind what they build ..even with only 300 miles on it. Get you something else..yeh it may not say Harley but you will be able to have peace of mind it wont fall apart and leave you holding the bag to pay to have it fixed.

All of that should be under warranty if you bought a new 09 as you stated. I'm guessing it may have been a leftover at a dealer. The battery, since the bike has been sitting for over a year is probably no good and needs to be replaced. You should not be paying for anything if the bike was bought new.

Did he mean the bike only had 300 miles on it when he bought it or that "He" has only rode it 300miles? Still should have had some kind of warranty.

I had some minor glitches on my 2011 CVO Ultra Electra Glide, but all I had to do was point out something and it was replaced at NO CHARGE. maybe you should contact Harley Headquarters and let them know about the problem. Harley will make it RIGHT!

The bike was bought at Mid-Ohio Harley .Don’t know if I can post that on here. Bike was brand new with 17 miles on it. It was purchased on Oct 28th. I question the dealer at the time concerning the battery and he tells me it would be fine..not. I live in Ky so I had to trailer it back. The dealer I am working with now is in Lexington Ky. Most batteries that are started for a short time such as at a dealer and left for 1-2 yrs in this condition are not going to last. That is why I ask before I left the stealer I purchased it from. Long story short.. you can’t trust anyone at these dealerships. As for contacting corporate I did. They tell me it is up to the dealership. So my comment regarding Harley standing behind what they sell.. Well they threw me to the wolves. Oh and as for the comment:"Hmm first post and it does not make any sense????Playing games maybe " Your more than welcome to call Harley and give them my Vin number and they can give you the 3 incident numbers they have for me regarding these issues  .. Sound to me you work for Harley and your trying to cover their ... for them.

Hate you had a very bad experience. Harley, like any other company, will try to protect themselves....justly or not. If there is not a valid reason for their actions, you can force them to stand by the warrenty. There, regretfully, are bad apples in every bunch. I know this is no consolation for you, but to condem a entire company is a little overboard. I do, however, understand your anger.

I also understand your anger...but the bottom line is you bought a new bike...that battery is under warranty---no question about it. It is up to the MoCo to stand behind it. Or any dealer should warranty that for you. I would take it in and complain that it goes dead and get them to make a repair order and if they try to charge you refuse and have them put it in writing that they won't replace it under warranty..then call HD customer relations. I hope you got the name of the person at corporate who said they wouldn't do it.......

Battery will set you back about the equivalent of two nights out at a cheap place. The older I get I realize that there are fewer things to get pissed about anymore. Buy a battery. Maybe wait til spring to do it, and ride on. Save yourself the aggravation, whether you are right or not. Less stress leads to longer happier lives. We all should know this because that is why we bought these things, to relieve stress. Right?

:orange:If the bike was "NEW" then it is under warranty. If you bought it "AS IS" then it is up to you to get it fixed.  Right? :nervous:

I can see this point...BUT stress or no stress...he just spent who know what on a NEW bike.....The guy deserves a battery. I find it very strange that the dealer or HD for that matter would deny a new owner a simple thing like a battery on a new bike..Something is missing here.....maybe the bike was titled and then resold by the dealer and is out of factory warranty?? who knows........Not saying the story is made up, it just doesn't seem right. even the worst dealer would not deny a new customer with a new bike a battery.
