I'd require certified funds verified by my bank prior to shipping or signing over title.

Unfortunitely.......too many scams out there these days................

I recently sold a bike on CycleTrader and they had a link to http://www.escrow.com on their website.  I checked them out but wound up taking a cashier check because I met the guy in person and he seemed ok.  Everything worked out fine with that but if I was dealing with someone I was not able to meet in person I think I'd use the escrow service.  It was $175 to use it on the bike.

Cashier's Checks, Bank Drafts, Money Orders, etc. can all be faked now days.  If you don't personally know the person involved, insist on cash or use a guaranteed escrow service.
