For those that can't get to a class, the DVD course comes with the instructional video, and a practice course map layout.  Take it to any parking lot with a portable DVD player and you're half way there.  My wife and I do that each spring as a refresher and tune up and then take the MSF advance rider course every three years as it's free in this state.  I'd like to do the live Ride Like A Pro course but I've never had the money, time and location at the same time!

With that DVD I've ground the floorboards on bike down to the point they're soon gonna have to call 'em footpegs!  Oh, and I passed the MSF course, which is the PA state approved licensing course, with my wife on the back.  I lost a few points for braking because I felt I was cheating if I just hammered it and let the ABS do the rest, so I tried to do it without.  Next time I'm going for the perfect score!

I average over 1,000 miles a week on my scooters and wished I would have taken classes like this 50 years ago

Now in the process of re-training my thought process====After all of those years of doing all of this wrong===I think I may be on the right track now====Practice, Practice, Practice

They said you can buy a dozen tennis balls, get an electric knife cut them in half, and all of the spacing and details are on the dvd....

Yes they do mention the spacing, but the DVD comes with a diagram that makes it even easier.  When we went to buy the tennis balls, they had these little cones right in the Sporting Good isle.  They're shapeds like an anthill.  Only two or three inches tall but wide at the base so you can run over them without anything getting caught.  It's cheaper then the tennis balls as it turns out and they're dayglo orange for high visability.

I practice every time I turn into a parking lot.  I drag the boards and make tight turns even when I don't need to so it's second nature when I do need to.  Same thing on the highway.  I practice the press and roll exercises whenever I'm in an area with no traffic and clear visability.  If no one's around when I come to a stop sign or red light I practice my emergency stops.  Not saying I'm the worlds safest rider, but I am saying I'm practicing to be!

Those "little ant hill cones" are AYSO style soccer cones. You should be able to find quite a few of them at local garage sales as the little ones grow out of them.

While I think it's important to know the lean angle of your bike, I am not a proponent of regular board dragging out on the street. It's one thing to do it in a controlled training environment, but the instructors at motorschool warned us against doing it on the street. All it takes is a dip, bump, DOT reflector or any uneven surface to pitch you off the bike faster than you can imagine. One of the instructors, Steve H. busted his hip when he made a board dragging turn out on patrol. His inside floorboard caught a reflector and he got tossed into the air like a rag doll. He now limps for the rest of his life.

Soccer cones were cheap at Sports authority when I bought some for the club.

I agree with that.  I drag all the time in parking lots where I can see the area.  But while street riding I almost never drag them at speed.  Sometimes turning a corner maybe but not the high speed stuff (well, ok sometimes) and not in an area where you can't see and react to the road conditions.  I still advocate being able to do at will in case the kaka hits the ventilator and the need for a quick reaction turn out becomes necessary.

That's exactly it. A rider should be at least exposed to the sensation and feeling of boards or pegs dragging so that when it happens they don't do something foolish like grab the brakes or look down.
