Sony has a new line of car audio receivers that are iPod specific.
3 models in varying features. So far I have had all 3. The local Sony Outlet had gotten the models from the lowest to the highest over a 2 month period and they allow 30 day exchanges.
The first unit (DSX-100) had a malfunction and I exchanged the 2nd unit (DSX-200) because the mini jack on my Droid phone has a very poor connection. The staic made it unusable.
The DSX-300 allows Bluetooth connectivity.
So I now have the DSX-300.
My previous Sony Marine series that several of us use stopped interfacing with my iPods.
So I now have a 300 series receiver in the bike.
It is a direct replacement for the Sony head I took out. All plug and play. Uses the same wire connectors, brackets etc. Even the Hawg-wired handle bar interface works. Although I would like to have the speed compensated volume that Biketronics no offers.
This radio is a little bit more difficult to setup up but has more features. And it sounds way better then the previous unit.
The highlight though is the iPod dock. No CD, radio and USB only. It also has a USB port on the front face for sticks etc.
Bluetooth allows connecting and playing music through the Droid, either stored or internet music such as Pandora or Slacker. BT will also interface with the phone, but that is a feature I don't need.
The system seems smart enough (depending on how you connect) to allow BT Droid access for music but still allow BT access between the Droid and my Cardo headset.
Even mutes the volume with an incoming call that is connected through the Cardo.
Only thing it doesn't do that I wished it did was output the music via BT to the Cardo. I don't doubt that there is something on the market to do this though.
Full iPod control is the best feature. Searching or playing by artist, play list etc.
