Push up on it like you were disconnecting an air line put a rag under it you may get some fuel when you disconnect it

And be very careful reconnecting that fitting. The o-ring up inside the tank is not available from Harley and I have yet to find a match through O-ring specialty shops.
Damage the o-ring and spend $50 plus for a new tank fitting.

Yes I have. Measured and have looked for a copy. No luck yet.
It can come out with a pick.

Duane, I've replaced that o-ring on the red bike.  Perhaps I didn't think about it enough to recognize a problem.  But grabbed a ring out of a viton assortment tray.  Just visually matched it up and used it.

I didn't think about it either until I got a little rammy one day reconnecting the fuel line. Had a bit of a leak. Pulled the o-ring and it was shredded on one side.

Went to the dealer, not available. Had to buy the $45 or so tank fitting.

I tried several Viton o-rings, never found a match. But maybe I was trying too hard to get an exact size copy.

For the price of o-rings, I'd buy dozens and give them away if I could find the right one. I think the last batch I bought was like $10

Shouldn't be a problem just being careful with the fuel line. I most likely had it cocked to one side without realizing it.

Even if the correct fuel resistant o-ring was in that pack I wouldn't put HF crap on my bike.

Shouldn't be a problem just being careful with the fuel line. I most likely had it cocked to one side without realizing it.

It's been awhile since I knackered up the o-ring on the red bike.  It'd been on and off quite a few times and then after one too many uses the coupler dripped.  Like yours I had a bad spot on the OE ring.

I think I remember the fitting feeling snugger with the new o-ring.  Not enough to not be able to use the coupler.  But it was also new and dry so I probably didn't worry about a slight difference in feel.

It's been apart and together quite a few times since then.  Fortunately no problems.  I checked the o-ring tray in the tool box.  Found no name on the tray so can't tell you what to look for.  I keep one of the bigger nitrile rubber o-ring trays and a slightly smaller viton tray around.  The o-ring we're talking about came out of that tray and (I think) the tray came from Harbor Freight.
