Fairing Bra
« on: March 26, 2006, 10:27:28 AM »

All,
I just put one of those fairing bra's on my Cherry Bomb and have heard through the grapevine that you can't leave them on too long.  What's too long and why???  I'm gettin ready for a couple of trips across the desert and we all know what the sand and rocks can do to an outter fairing in the desert (already have several little chips).  I put a good coat of high carnuba paste wax on the fairing, and the new inner should be here in 8 weeks (or so , I'll take it off then).  Is 2 or 3 months too long????

Imagine some of that sand from the dessert getting under the bra (and it will) and then imagine what the fairing will look like when you take the bra off [smiley=nervous.gif]

OK,
so another benny spent shot to Sh$t........Don't know what to do about the rocks and sh$t in the desert.  We ride pretty hard out there,  and it never fails,  you come home with a few more chips than you left with......I gotta get the outter touched up already.....Sh$t......
I'm gonna leave it on there for the Fools Run, and probably take it off when I get back........

Just like a bra on a car, take it off every day and clean it as well as the surface it is on, Make sure it is BONE dry before reinstalling it. NEVER let it get wet and dry on the bike. It will bake the paint it is on as it dries.
They are very hard on the paint. Really do some damage if you get a speck of dirt or sand behind it. Instant sandblast type result.

Beags,

Some of the guys I have talked about rocks / chipping on the fairings, were looking into the clear coat type of Bra as they call it on the fairings.  I was told they are putting it on cars now.  I have not tried it nor heard feedback on it, but its another idea especially for the terrain your looking to encounter.

Check this out - clear 3M material, precut to fit E-Glides, kits for everything from just fairing to just about every exposed forward surface.

103 your link looks to be the same product as the one Jerry posted only 2 x as expensive and harder to install based on their scaling.

I am really wondering now if this is the same end product just that these guys were having it sprayed directly on vs. sticking it on from a sheet / roll

I've saw the 3M product that comes in a roll and is applied.  Many of the Harley truck owners on the NHTOC web site have that stuff as well as many vehicles at the car shows.  It appears to be a very good product and is hardly noticable unless you're up close.  The guys that had it on their trucks say that it's worth the cost......good bang for the buck.

If you don't mind the look of it applied the 3M stuff is the way to go.

We install it on Porsches all the time:  back of mirrors, leading edge of fenders etc.  It works like a champ, if the one place die cuts it, that would be the way to do it.

Tough to get the curves flat though, without getting wrinkles.

Looks like Jock has a nice install though...LOL

I've been around for a while and I've always wanted to do this....... [smiley=worthless.gif]

Does someone have pics of this stuff installed on a bike (not 3M's propaganda sheet)

Thanks
