Dang, Chief, you dug one up from the archives here.  First post in May of '04.

But I digress . . . . my previous style (LED temp only - no level) dipstick did this, but I thought they had all the gremlins worked out of these new ones.  All we need now is reports of them blowing out.  (Yes, perhaps even the screw-in ones. :o ;D)

I thought I had remembered seeing this one and thought it would be good to show the more things change, the more they stay the same.

If the screw in ones blow out, would they sound like the 'whizzers' fireworks? Can you imagine that thing going off and whizzing past your riding buddy's head?

Anyone have the new one for the 2007's?  I think it is a screw in design, but not sure.  Dealer has had them on order forever and I am waiting to see one before I buy it.

Noticed the other ones are made in Germany, got to give the German's credit that they used to build great stuff and had a lot of pride in what they did!

The picture I posted IS the 2007 screw in style. It worked great until this happened. It still reads fine, just coated in oil now.

I love mine but I'm on my 2nd one. The first one just quit on me one day. I took it back and they replaced it  :o  yeah I was shocked too. Not sure if they thing is too high tech for the location. Lots of heat and vibration down there and if you undo the screws to rotate it to align it as it notes in the tech sheet you'll see a bunch of really small electronics. Time will tell I guess.

The MOCO just wanted the rear cylinder and the dipstick to match...

Sorry, couldn't resist...

My first one got some water inside it while washing the bike, and shorted it out. Stupid me, went and bought another and it lasted two days before it quit working.

I've had for almost a year.  If you check it right after stopping, you get an error until the oil settles down.  Reading the temp is just the beginning of more stress.  You are better off not knowing the temp.

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that this device is a solution in search of a problem.  What's so hard about checking oil the old fashioned way by pulling the dipstick?  And if the oil is a little hot, whatcha gonna do, drop in a few ice cubes?  Not ride until winter?   :nixweiss:

How's this for screwy? Yes, that's oil in the display. This one is going back for warranty replacement.
Gotta keep that LCD lubricated. ;D  That's really strange.  I've never seen that happen to the LCD dipstick.   :nixweiss:  Mine has the problem if you push the button too far in, it will catch on the cover and the LCD will not turn off.  Not good for battery.  I was going to return it as defective but then found out if I shift the button just a little, it will pop out and the LCD will time out and shut off.
cheers :2vrolijk_21:,

On the upside, not only do you get level and temperature but can monitor oil color or maybe it will trap little bits of motor as it goes through the lube oil system... :-X

I just put one of those things on Sunday...It is still working,,,,, after one ride..
I found oil temp@240 with head temp of 377 parked off the road at a three minute idle.
At lease it is another point to look at...until it breaks...

The push in style on my tc88 had the chrome cap twist off after a few level checks but it worked until it flew off somewhere.   :confused5:

I've had a different experience than you guys.  Mine froze in place while I was in South Dakota in August.  It also read a different level every time I looked at it.  Sometimes full other times empty.  Very disconcerting when  I couldn't get it out.  Stopped in 2 dealers (Deadwood and Hill City), looking to borrow a tool to pull it.  Anyone ever hear of a Harley Dealer that sold only clothes?  Finialy got desperate and used water pump plyers and broke the hell out of it.  My dealer offered me a new one when I got home and told him the story.  I said I wouldn't use one again on a bet.  He offered store credit;  I accepted.
