Cyl to piston clearance 110
« on: December 06, 2010, 01:07:49 PM »

Any one out there that has access to the factory CV0 110 manual and can look up
what the recommended (new components) cylinder to piston clearance is?

I am also intrested in the spigot dia on the 110 cyl, not the "bore to" dia but the actual spigot dia.
Anyone that can help me on this?

Thanks

I want to find out what the specs are in the HD shop manual.
from that, I can get an idea of what the 110 kit has for cyl/piston clearance.

If the specs are same as for other forget pistons, not intrested in the 110.
(easier and just as noisy and short lived to do a forged 107)

If on the other hand HD feels that the stock 110 pistons can be used with "cast piston " clearance,
THAT would be intresting = the biggest TC with tight clearance.

So any one with the CVO 110 shop manual, if you find the time.........

I had the local HD dealer do a build on my 2007 Road King. When they had it apart they said why not replace the stock cast pistons with SE forged pistons.

So they did.

After I got the bike and removed parts home I did not think the pistons looked cast so I sent Mahle the part # 101P27+ and application I received an email back.

Their reply was those are forged.

Try and find out what material they are using for the forging. There are basically two types most everyone uses. 2618 which requires more clearance as it expands more, and 4032 which expands less so you need less clearance.

I just milled the pin boss on them to accomodate full compliment rods. They are a nice piece and have less machine work than any other forging (if in fact they are forged) I have seen. Very light weight.

I checked with Mahle today the 2007 CVO 110 pistons were forged from 4032.

Thanks for the info. That is a good alloy and would explain the tighter fit.
