Tire Mileage
« on: March 30, 2006, 08:00:56 PM »

Question - How many miles did you have on your stock front and rear tires prior to changing them?

I fully recognized that conditions will dictate the results, just attempting to review some results.

Jock, I have about 11,500 miles on my '04 SEEG.  The front tire is still the original and has good tread left, probably 6 or 7/32.  The rear was replaced during the 10,000 mile service.  It was junk at that point.

I got 6k on the rear of my heritage softail classic (it was almost bald) . The front looked like new but replaced both with Metzlers. I also replace the brake pads at the same time.

Averaging around 8k on the rears and about 15k on the fronts.   Just replaced the break pads to the Lyndall Z pad plus on the pumpkin getting ready to do the same on the cherry.

Jock, I got more out of the back tire that came stock on the red bike than any back tired I've ever run.  Was replaced at about 12K.  I probably had another 1k in it without being "too worn out" too.  A bolt went through it at 12k though so the replacement happened then.

The front tire still looks almost new.  When the rear needs replacing again the front will still have plenty of tread.  It'll get replaced then anyway.  My fronts always get replaced with every other rear tire.

I replaced my Road King rear at 8K.  The SEEG front and rear were replaced at 3,700 due to a nail in the rear and a screw in the front.  I'm now at 11K on the SEEG with good tread left.

I replaced my stock tires before putting the bike up for the winter with Metzlers. It had 14500 and the rear was well worn but the front was in good shape. DelNel ;D

I have gotten 9 to 10 K out of my first 2 sets of tires, I personally change both tires when the rear gets thin in the middle (tires are cheap and falls are costly) my current set has about 7K and starting to look thin (my second set was metzlers and they were difinately tighter in the rain and I will seriously consider other alternates to the Dunlops again)  [smiley=pumpkin.gif]

I too will have rear changed as I get my 10,000 mile service. Could go more but want to get all taken care of at the same time. 90% of miles were with a hefty king tour pak and sometimes a not so hefty wife! ;D

A new rear Dunlop D402 MU85B16 has about 11/32 in. of tread depth vs. the 9/32 in. on the other Touring bike Dunlops.  This extra tread contributes to extra miles.  My SEEG had its rear changed with a little over 1/32 left at 12,200 miles.  A new front Dunlop has about 6/32 in of tread depth.  At 16,800 miles my front tire still has over 4/32 in of tread depth left.

Jock,
I got 12K on mine although the rear one was showing before the front by about 1500 miles
Both my rear tires on the Heritage and my Seeg both picked up drywall screws at 800 miles on them.

I changed my rear tire at about 9k. The front is still the original at 20k and the second rear is about ready for changing. I am going to try ME 88's this time.
