Fireguy, I had my heal shifter removed before I picked my bike up (09 SEUC). Since my heal shifter was on the outside of the toe shifter I purchased a chrome cover for the exposed spline. It is located on page 439 of the 2011 parts catalogue item F. for 14.95. part no. 35471-05. It is held in place by an allen screw. CAHDBIKER

I removed mine..just got a big spacer and anti-rattle washer--it goes on first and then the shift lever.

I removed mine put a chrome cap on it & now have a spare shifter when the chrome peels on the other one is the way I see it.
If anyone is going to throw theirs as far as they can let me know so I can catch it & sell it on E-Bay.    8)

You can do it two ways.  One is to put the "spacer" behind the shifter, or the other way is to put a cover on the front of the shaft.  Harley makes a cover (35471-05) that covers the shaft if you move the shifter all the way back.  The spacer moves it outward, leaving you about 2 inches to play with.  There is no shaft exposed this way.  If you go with the spacer behind the shifter, it can be purchased through about any aftermarket dealer.  Kuryakyn, Drag, or Custom Chrome all have them.  While you're at it, change the allen bolt out for a chrome one.

Removing the heal shifter was the 1st thing I changed on mine, boot kept getting stuck... I used the HD end cap cover.

Yea, easy peasy, my size 12 boots would not work with mine on either... :huepfenlol2:

But here is a tip: That rear shifter goes upside down to replace the front shifter and looks the same.  So don't throw it away, when the chrome and pad wears on the first one, you have a new update spare to bolt right on.  Mine on my CVO Street Glide is hanging on the wall just waiting for the first one to show wear.....  (Fat chance of it showing wear, in solid rain of Queensland- A record year of rain, nearly every day... I am riding half the time in it anyway... Breaking in my new 11 CVO :-*)

Well, I cleaned it, labeled it, bagged it and put it in the plastic "CVO" parts container, just in case it is ever needed. As my wife will testify "I never throw anything away".

When I picked up my bike I told my salesman I hated the heel shifter & he went to parts & purchased this

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448767620&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309381869&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374309381869&bmUID=1293026327678&bmLocale=en_US

and had the service dept install it for me for, out of his own pocket. I know it was not a lot of money, but I was very surprised that he did that & gave me the spare shifter to boot.

More salesmen need to learn how to make a happy customer.

Got that part # ?    I kinda like the heel shifter, but hate that my boot gets hung up on it from time to time.
