Reserved for 1999 or later Harley-Davidson Touring model motorcycles bearing a valid Harley-Davidson VIN number. Road King models are not allowed. Motorcycle must be ridden under it's own power to staging, starting line and back to the pit area after completion of the run (no towing allowed except for verified breakage after the conclusion of a run).
Requirements and Specifications

Minimum weight at conclusion of run, including rider and safety gear, must be 975 pounds.

Engine: Must be Harley-Davidson SE120R engine as supplied by Screamin' Eagle Performance Parts bearing a valid Harley-Davidson VIN number. Maximum displacement is 120.5 cubic inches with a stroke of 4.625 inches and a maximum bore of 4.070 inches. Camshaft profiles are not restricted. All other engine upgrades are allowed utilizing engine components available from Screamin' Eagle Performance Parts only. No modifications are allowed to any stock or upgraded engine components. All engines must be naturally aspirated and all air must be delivered to the engine through a single, stock, OE or Screamin' Eagle fuel injection throttle body. SE throttle bodies may be modified up to 64mm. Maximum throttle plate diameter shall not exceed 64mm. EFI shall be controlled by an OEM supplied ECM bearing the factory label. Air induction is limited to a single concentric, continuous reducing diameter velocity stack with a maximum opening area of 20 square inches and/or optional air filter. No cups or scoops are allowed. Fuel shall be supplied by a maximum of two (2) stock, OE or Screamin' Eagle supplied fuel injectors. Compression releases are allowed. Crankcase vent tube must be routed to catch can or carburetor air intake system.

Fuel: VP Racing Fuels C-12 is the specified fuel. No Fuel additives and /or combustible oil additives are allowed. Dielectric constant, as per AHDRA testing meter, must match baseline reading of specified fuel. Fuel must match color of specified fuel. Fuel must match AHDRA generated graphs in random Gas Chromatography analysis of specified fuel.

DRIVE TRAIN

Chain Guard: Must have OEM chain or belt guard for primary and secondary drives.

Transmission: Must be Harley-Davidson original equipment or Screamin' Eagle supplied transmission. Must be six (6) speed transmission and all six (6) ratios must engage. Clutch must be cable or hydraulically operate by a handlebar mounted clutch lever only. Must have OEM based clutch, modifications are legal. No slipper clutches allowed. Belt drives and chain drives are legal. Final drives may consist of any ratios. Manually operated air shifters and/or electric engine kills are allowed. No automatic transmissions.

SUSPENSION AND BRAKES

Brakes: Must be stock OEM or Harley-Davidson P&A dual front, single rear brake calipers and rotors. Entire baking system must be in good working order.

Controls: Handlebar controls must be located in safe, workable position. Foot controls shall be located at the OEM location. All controls must meet or exceed OEM equipment standards. Snap-back throttle return mandatory.

Suspension: Front and rear must be stock OEM or Harley-Davidson P&A supplied performance upgraded. No other modifications are allowed.

FRAME

Frame: Must be stock Harley-Davidson OEM frame. No structural modifications are allowed to the frame. Must retain stock swing arm. A frame-mounted kickstand is required. Stock OEM or Harley-Davidson P&A touring floorboards are required in their factory mounted location. All frame components must remain as supplied by OEM.

Ground Clearance: Minimum of 2 inches with rider on motorcycle and 10 p.s.i. in rear tire (includes exhaust and kickstand).

Wheel Base: Must be factory wheelbase (allowing for chain/belt adjustment) for model of motorcycle being entered in competition (maximum 66 inches, minimum 62 inches).

Wheelie Bars: Are not allowed.

WHEELS AND TIRES

Tires: Must be H (or higher) rated/D.O.T. motorcycle tire. No car tires allowed. Must have 2/32 tread on front and rear. Any size. The tread radius of the tire, as viewed in cross section, shall not be more than 12".

Wheels: Stock OEM wheels or Harley-Davidson P&A performance wheels. Any size.

BODY

Body: Stock OEM front and rear fenders and gas tank are required. Stock OEM fiberglass touring saddlebags and triangle side covers are required and must be located in their factory position. No modifications are allowed to any bodywork or tank.

Fairing: Fairings are required and must be stock OEM fairing with OEM or Harley-Davidson P&A windshield. No modifications are allowed. Fairings must be Street Glide, Road Glide or classic type "batwing" only. Fairings must be mounted utilizing only OEM mounting points, brackets and location. OEM lower fairings are allowed without modifications.

Seat: Stock OEM touring seat or Harley-Davidson P&A seat. No modifications to the seat are allowed.

ELECTRICAL

Ignition: Must use same ECM as fuel injection for primary ignition control. Two (2) step rev-limiters are allowed.

Charging System: Not required

Starting System: Must be on board electrical starter of OEM configuration. No external starter, no push starts, no rollers. No jump-starts from an external battery will be allowed in the staging lanes.

Control Switches: Must be mounted and constructed in a safe, craftsman-like manner. Must have an emergency kill switch.

Computers: Only data gathering computers are allowed.

Lights: Not required

Set up a class and only allow 1 motor to run.
Has to be a six speed and a Harley six speed only!
So much for the thrill of competition.

It's not that unusual to have very specific limits on parts used on vehicles like this.  This is done in lots of "hobby" racing that is a lot more than just a hobby.  I think Formula "V" racing in some of the sport classes are very specific in what parts can or cannot be used.  It does even the playing field quite a bit.

To a slightly different level, I remember back in the '80s going to an IROC race where all the big names were driving, but all the cars were identical to the last degree.  That was a great race series and lots of fun to watch as it really boiled down to the driver and the pit crews.

If I were going to race a HD, this would be where I would want to do it.  Money helps, but does not buy you a victory.

Great concept and rules in my opinion.

Come on, it is AHDRA and the name says it all...  It's their game and their rules!
