Bluetooth via Garmin 660
« on: December 21, 2010, 09:22:27 PM »

So I just drove my 2011 FLHTCUSE6 home last Friday and spent several hours going through all the setups. This includes about 4 hours downloading software and maps for the Garmin, and over an hour putting MP3's on the SD card.  I'm getting a couple of snags that hopefully someone can assist with.  1.) there was no connection from th audio output of the Garmin to the Aux of the HK radio.  I assume the navigation audio is getting fed via the harness, but I don't hear any audio unless I connect these two ports.  By doing so, it turns on the little AUX icon on the radio screen, which in turn makes the MP3 selectable.  Why was this not installed at the factory?  Is the audio also routed through the harness, and if so, how do I select it? 2.) Bluetooth. I can pair the Garmin with my Blackberry 8830, download phone books and perform several functions.  When I make a call, I can hear the phone ringing, but when they answer, they can't hear me and I can't hear them.  Several hours of research has yielding nothing.  This has to have a simple solution, but I can't seem to find it.  Any ideas?

Nothing to my understanding runs through the harness from the factory. If you take off the front fairing you should see two wires from the garmin harness. One for the audio and the other for the microphone.  You can run a 3.5mm wire from the audio out while the fairing is off and back out to the right side of the radio where the aux input is. That will now let you hear mp3 music and nav prompts from the 660 through your headsets or speakers when the hk radio is set on aux. You will also hear in coming calls but as you know already no one will hear you.
You will need another device to plug into the microphone wire. I suggest the HD bomm. Jim is very helpful and he makes a very simple device to solve this issue. After you install it you will be heard when you speak through the helmets headset. Here is his website.http://www.hdbomm.com/. Kennedy also makes a device put theirs is more complicated. I suggest trying the HD bomm first. It is ridiculous that Harley didn't run all these wires from the factory but not surprising. Good luck !!!!

thanks, I had just reached the same conclusion after 2 more hours at the dealership.  Unfortunately the technology is moving faster than HD's training for their dealership staff.

I tried the hdbomm when I first got my 660 a couple of years ago and it didn't do the job.  Don't remember what the issue was.

I sent the bomm back and installed the Kennedy Cellset.  Works great!  It is tricky to install just because of all the hard wiring required.  But if you're good with a soldering iron and can read schematics you won't have a problem.

Kennedy's web site is a little confusing concerning what kits to order.  It's best to give them a call, let them know what kind of bike you have. what electronics you have installed and what you want the system to do and they'll send you what you need.  Great customer support!

Does the Kennedy cell set need a switch to flip in order to take the call?

No, when you receive a call a phone icon will come up on the 660/665.  Just tap the icon to accept the call.
