Brembo Calipers
« on: December 29, 2010, 12:06:48 AM »

Wondering if anyone has done a switch to Brembo calipers...I am working on an 03 SERK.  Rotor size, volume from the master, mounting, etc...I am just looking at doing the front.  Anybody know?

Thanks,
E

Have done it.  Not difficult.  But not cheap.  You'll need:

Pair of Brembo calipers
Pair of 11.8" rotors from an 08 or newer touring bike
To make it work like you expect you'll also need a master cylinder from an 08 and newer touring model.
You'll also need the brake lever for the right side.

At a minimum that's it.  If you want it to look "right" you'll also want the clutch perch for the left side of the handlebar.  The levers are different for the 08 and up  bikes.  So if you change the master cylinder and clutch perch you can put on the matching levers.

NB: Before I forget when you score calipers try get the bleeder/banjo bolts with them.  They're different than the hardware for the older calipers.  Mounting bolts are 10mm x 1.5".  And not all the "new" rotors are the same.  Many of the CVO models, for example use the wheel as the center hub of the rotor.  Obviously those won't work on our old wheels.  But there are lots of current models that use 11.8" rotors that will match right up to our wheels.

Thanks!  I figured it wouldn't be too easy on the wallet.  I think I have scored a set of "stock" calipers chromed cheaper than I can get mine done and definately cheaper than making the change.  Probably make this next years winter project...wife is starting to count the number of boxes arriving!  Ha!
