Fork Lock Problem
« on: April 03, 2006, 01:14:08 PM »

Ok, I must be stupid, but I cannot get my fork lock to work!  Someone referred to it as the europeon version but it does not work like my 04 SEEG.

I don't recall if it worked ever, but when I tried it on Sunday, it would not lock the fork!  It is very difficult to turn to the lock position and the key will turn and you can depress the mechanism, but the fork does not lock...wtf am I doing wrong?

Try giving your bars a good jerk to the full left position when locked.  I know when new my previous ones were somewhat stubborn but after a while they work themselves in.  Good Luck and keep us posted. J

On another forum I can remember several people with 06 Glides and Ultras with the fork lock problem.  I can't remember exactly but it was fixed under warranty.  It shouldn't be that way.

Fork lock does not work on my '06 RG either.  They have replaced the lock itself once under warranty but it still does not work correctly.  Can't get it to lock.  I carry a caliper lock in the tour pack and put that on at night when on a trip plus set the alarm.  I need to take it back in to get it fixed but that interferes with riding time.

I searched this forum and did not see anyone else with a problem...but it sounds like others are having a problem...so it may not be me...Phew!

Haven't had a single problem with mine, when I'm going to use it I turn the bars all the way to the left and turn the knob all the way left (should be pointing 90* from the fairing instead of at it), at that time the front end is locked in position, then just put the key in, push down and turn the key.  I've heard of others that have had problems, but mine seems to work right everytime.

The PUSH DOWN is new for 06.  Took me a few times to get the hang of it.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I was reading ThunderRoads last night- they had a write up of someone's StreetGlide having the same problem.  Supposedly the dealer new that you had to move the clutch cable to get things to work correctly.  I don't remember if they had a true "fix" for it or not.  Sucks to get old!

Mine works fine too. I just think it's a PITA to have to lock the forks to lock the ignition  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
