Electrical Problem
« on: January 01, 2011, 06:50:19 PM »

Well now that I waited 5 months for my FLTRSEU and picked it up Dec. 31st, I now probably need to take it back to the dealer. I didn't check when I left the dealer, but when I got home I noticed I didn't have any brake light, rear turn signals or horn. The tour-pak lights are also supposed to work as turn signals but they don't work in that mode either, I checked the fuse and swapped them around to see if the fuse was bad but nothing would work.
The front turn signals work in running mode only, no signaling mode. The rears only flash when the security system activates so I know some power is getting to them. I am at a loss. I checked any and all wire connections I could find but nothing was disconnected or loose. I know my dealer will fix it under warranty but does anyone have any ideas so I don't have to?  :nixweiss:

I would also double check every nut, bolt and screw before I rode it back to the dealer.  If they missed performing the delivery checks, who knows what they missed during the assembly checks.  Just my opinion after 30 years in quality assurance.

I'm trailering it back Monday morning. Without a working stop light I'm just begging to be rear ended if I ride it.
I found a couple more accessories not working so I'm going to make them keep it until everything works like it should.

That is as pathetic as it gets - their dealership should be revoked!  That's extremely unsafe to let a motor vehicle out on the road in that condition.  I always have a checklist and go over EVERYTHING before I accept delivery.  Picking my CUSE3 from my dealer here was the first time everything was perfect.  My two Kawasaki's bought new in the past were not.  One had no fluid in the coolant tank and the other had the drive belt so tight it made the bearings growl.
I agree with what someone else said; make them come pick it up!

Except.....   He specifically wrote that it wasn't eyeballed before leaving the shop.  So all we can say is it may have been in that condition when he left.  Or something may have happened on the ride home.  Not cutting the dealership any unnecessary slack.  But when you don't know, you don't know.

I'm not going to jump to conclusions. I didn't check out every item prior to leaving the shop, so even though I shouldn't have to do it, I should have, could have but didn't.
The owner offered to come to my house and ride the bike back to the shop but his son beat him to it and picked it up.
Things happen and hopefully this will be a easy fix. There's a lot of gadgets on this bike and I'm sure the dealer will make good on it. The roads are full of salt and cinders so it's not like I'm going to be out and about on it anyway. That's what my Buell Ulysses is for anyway. No chrome!

Dammit man!  I am sure that it something simple and that the dealer will make it all good.  Look forward to hearing what simple thing was wrong

The dealer picked it up Monday and I stopped by on Wednesday. The bike was in pretty much disassembled. The  fairing was off, tail light off, seat, saddlebags, side cover, instrument pod, handlebar switch gear. You name it and it was apart. They were looking at every piece of wiring on the bike to see if they could find whatever is shorting out the accessory fuse. I guess they thought it was fixed after changing the fuse but it blew it out again on the test ride so it went back on the lift. It's Friday and I didn't hear from them and service is closed on the weekend, plus it snowed here today and I'm not in a hurry to get it back until it's fixed. I'm not sure what it is but I guess they may need to start replacing wiring harnesses until it works like it should. I'm friends with the owner so I'm sure he will make sure it's right too. He was pretty pissed to see that it had a scratch on the front fender that was discovered when it was taken out of the crate. He ordered those part last Thursday. Like I said, the weather sucks here right now so I'm not rushing anything. I ordered the Fullsac x-pipe, CVO 2 inch muffler cores and TTS Master Tune for it today so I'll be looking forward to working on it when I get it back.

Yes, Chris stopped by in the box truck. John called while Chris was in route and offered to ride it back but I told him that wouldn't be wise because of the brake light and turn signal problem. You are local and know the way people drive around here. They would run over their mother if she got in the way.
