"YOUR ROADS"
You do it. Don't deny it. We all do it. And it can lead to terrible consequences.
Near your house, work or on your favorite route you "think" you know all the turns, lights, gas stations, etc, etc.
You may "think" you know the road. But the road DOES NOT KNOW YOU.
That's why yesterday I found 2 common threats almost get me because I was too obsessed with getting out to continue my break in period.
1. While getting on a highway ramp - that I "know" like the back of my hand -- I did not know that road crews had been using it as a staging area. There it was -- tar, oil, gravel. I had to slow while turned over, then swerve.
2. On a 4 lane local high volume road I knew afternoon traffic is always bad. But there he was -- a contractor with a big pick up loaded with ladders, buckets, etc. As he pulled out in front of me from my right he had to SLAM on his brakes because he could not cross into the opposite direction. There he is dead in front of me, my right is blocked with other cars -- THRESHOLD BRAKING? Yup. And those ABS do work. But now I have to be ready for what's behind me.
My OVER CONFIDENCE with local roads almost caused tragedy.
Sure, ride it like you just stole it. But no need to act like the cops really are on your tail. How many times have we heard EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED. So.....
don't speed towards what you can't see.
