Saddlebag liners, anybody try these?
« on: April 04, 2006, 06:46:26 PM »

Has anyone tried these saddlebag liners? I bought a set off ebay and havent put them on yet. I thought they were like one peice, hard sided. They're soft and you attach velcro to the rim of the bag and go all the way around.

They came stock on the 2006 FLHTCUSE,
I guess I have no issues with them other than you loose a little room in the saddle bags.

Were they not stock on all Ultras?

They certainly stop the inside of the fibreglass saddlebags getting all messed up with loose chit vibrating in the bottom there.

I've seen stuff (socks, skivvies etc - stuff you don't really want to have contaminated and itch- inducing - know what I mean?) covered in powdered resin after a longish trip due to a screwdriver or tin of beans or whatever rattling around down there.

A slight loss of packing room more than outweighed by a big gain in practicality I'd say - if you are really going for it and taking "the kitchen sink" - you can always whip them out at packing stage to gain a bit more room.

Cheers

The HD ones are the same? Velcro? I would like to have a fitted hard piece that drops down in there.

I bought the same fitted liners that are now standard on the SEUltra as Jeffj stated.

I've got a set out of the Custom Chrome catalog.  Got them well before Harley released theirs last year.  Surprisingly, the Harley unit appears to be a bit better.  The fit is a bit "tighter" and it's got holes for the saddlebag bails to go through the liner.  With the aftermarket pieces you have to peel the liner off the bag to get at the bails.

I wanted them to offer some protection to and to hide the wiring harness to the spoilers.  Really a necessity if you've got wire running around inside the bag.

The ones out of the Custom Chrome book and the Harley parts both seem to do a perfectly credible job though.  Liner luggage slides in and out just fine.  The bags are protected a little from stuff rolling around inside the bags and stuff inside is protected some while it's in there.

Only downside is they hold moisture.  So if you peel off your rain suit some Sunday afternoon and stick it back in the saddlebag after the rain stopped don't forget it's in there when you get home.  Otherwise a couple of weeks later EVERYTHING inside there will still be all moist and moldy.

tin of beans

Dude, one minute you're talkin about payin someone else to clean your ride, the next you're saying you carry freakin beans in your saddlebag like an old time scooter tramp. Siiiggghhhh and to think it looks like my youngest is gonna marry a Brit. You and I need to sit down and drink a pint or gallon or whatever it takes. Come to think of that, why do say a pint when everything over there is metric? Damn I'm off the track here.

Ok I remember now. The saddlebag liners are absolutely great by themselves for short trips when you don't want chit bouncing around and bunging up the insides of your bags etc  BUT  You cannot pack a removable bag and have it fit into the saddlebags with the liners in them. You have to go one way or the other. Both is too much, so what I do is pull em out for long trips and go with the removable bags.

I have the the liners from the softside guy from ebay and like them with no problems for over a year now. I guess I had never had reason to take liners out? They seem to fit like great  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I ordered the HD ones yesterday, I guess I bought the ebay ones to save some money, but I didnt like the idea of the double sided tape and velcro.
Got the HD ones and they just drop right in, allot fancier too. They look really good, dress it up nicely.

Would anyone have the HD item numbers for the saddlebag liners discussed??
Also, I had a '97 Ultra Glide which had a nice liner in its trunk.  The FULL size trunk I have on my '04 SEEG came with no such liner.  Does the MOCO sell this type of liner also??
Thanks Much!!
