The family and I are flying out to Vegas in a couple of weeks for four days, we will be renting a cage while we are there and doing a little site seeing.

I've been through most of the posts and based on what I've seen we will be heading out to Red Rock, Hoover dam, and Grand Canyon so far.

Had a look at some of the standard websites looking for places to go, things to do, and places to eat... I know there are a pile of you who have been out that way or live there and know of some of the best spots, so I'm looking for recommendations please...

I think Valley of Fire is way superior to Red Rock, probably 50 miles north of Vegas. Two local Biker bars are cool. One is in a small community west of Vegas on the road to Pahrump. Just as you reach the summit and start down, it is on the right side of the road. South of Vegas, west of the interstate, town is something like good springs or good water, another cool bar. Sorry couldn.t be more specific.

Have a Pink's Hot Dog, a Ceasar Salad at Ceasars, the sandwiches and coleslaw are awesome in the restaurant in the lower level at Mandalay, have an Aqua Massage....

Not sure how old the "family" is.......adults or children?

If you're taking children, you can certainly spend an evening or two just going to free things like the Fremont Street Experience (downtown, on Fremont Street), the dancing fountains, the volcanos, the pirate ship fighting the British ship, the gondolas at the Venitian, etc. all on the strip!

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
Located 15 miles west of Las Vegas via Charleston Blvd., this 197,000 acre area provides
a 13 mile scenic loop drive, and over 30 miles of hiking trails. Picnic areas, cycling, hiking,
climbing and horseback riding are available throughout.

Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay

Fountains at Bellagio (free admission)
Each night, a water and music show plays over and over in the spectacular fountains filling
the quarter-mile lake in front of the Bellagio.

MGM Grand Lion Habitat (free admission)
Located right in the heart of the MGM Grand, these lions are clearly the kings of this
jungle. Visitors can watch these amazing creatures as they eat, play and sleep. Live
presentations are given by the trainers of these lions, but all presentations depend on the
activity level of the large felines.

Gondola Ride at the Venetian
Step away to relax for a while with a gondola ride at the Venetian! Modeled after authentic
Venetian gondolas the half-mile ride is a great way to get a unique view of the many
shops while being surrounded by architecture inspired by Venice landmarks.

STRATOSPHERE X-Scream
Have you ever played at 866 feet above the ground? The X-Scream will allow you and
several other riders to do just that. X-Scream will send riders 27 feet over the edge of the
Stratosphere Tower before being pulled back and propelled over again for more.

Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage
Right in the heart of Las Vegas, tigers, panthers, leopards and dolphins display their talents
to the millions of visitors that visit Las Vegas each year. This facility was developed by
Siegfried & Roy in part to help save endangered animals. Whether you want to become a
trainer for a day or just roam the Gardens this habitat may be just what you are looking for.

Maggiano’s
A family style Italian restaurant provides patron’s many choices from cheese ravioli to
chicken saltimbocca. Located in the Fashion Show Mall, Maggiano’s provides great views of
the North Las Vegas strip and the Wynn hotel. Its large windows provide an open air feeling
and comfortable setting.

Carnegie Delicatessen
Straight from Seventh Avenue in Midtown New York City this deli brings the real experience
to The Mirage. This menu is full of dishes for every meal of the day, from French toast to the
legendary towering corned beef sandwich. Don’t plan on leaving here hungry.

Hard Rock Cafe
Known as the oldest classic themed restaurant in Las Vegas the Hard Rock Cafe offers more
than just its memorabilia and store. A lively menu has many options to choose from. Options
include some of Hard Rock’s “wings around the world” or try the pulled pork sandwich with
mac n’ cheese. One for sure will be entertained here.

Wolfgang Puck Pizzeria & Cucina
Guests are invited into this restaurant with a warm and inviting atmosphere. Here one will
find the freshest and finest ingredients that create great tastes. Many choices from the menu
include antipasti, salads, pastas, and tempting meat and fish dishes.

Isla Mexican Kitchen
Located inside Treasure Island this dining room comes alive with a roving guacamole
cart ready to serve. Guests can choose from many Mexican traditions prepared in not-sotraditional
ways. Choices include Mexican spiced chicken, crispy red snapper or a sirloin
steak. Tacos, enchiladas and tamales are always an option.

Canyon Ranch Grill
Located just off the 3rd floor in The Palazzo one can enjoy innovative, fresh and healthy
cuisine. Choose from many homemade soft drinks and juices while deciding what to eat
for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Make sure to save room for dessert as there are many great
options to choose from.

Burger Bar
Located in Mandalay Bay the Burger Bar provides one the chance to build their own
sandwich from compartments off the menu that have names like “The Ocean” and “The
Farm”. Or how about ordering a veggie burger on focaccia? The choices here are endless!

Grand Canyon (but it's a bit of a way), consider a Helicopter or Plane ride of the Canyon
Zion National Park in Utah is nice (not sure this time of year). Not quite as far as Grand Canyon

I think all that have ever been will agree that the Valley of Fire is a no-miss. Far more to see than Red Rock!
