Jerry,
Really, get rid of that foolish air temp gauge, seeing as it don't read out right so often anyways, BTW rider it's hot out in case you were not aware of that. Put in some functional gauges, that being one for sure [smiley=biggthumpup.gif]

Mark,

Believe me, I would love to dump the air temp gauge in favor of oil temp. Unfortunately, I'm a little anal when it comes to "mix and match" gauges, and I want one that matches.

Jerry,
I hear ya on that note! there being the reason mine is still in place, and the chrome one added to the bar.
Damn did I forget to even look at the sending unit for the Temp gauge when I was in my fairing this winter! I was going to see if the whip was long enough to relocate the end to a better spot, so that it would read the outside air better.
Mark [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
BTW sorry for the late reply bro!!

Mark,

The wires and connector for the sensor are barely long enough to reach the sensor in its normal position.  My plan is to splice in enough wire to move the sensor outside the fairing, probably below the steering head, where it should see actual ambient air flow.  Of course, I've got to get the gauge fixed first.  Mine starts out reading close to actual, and about 10 to 15 minutes into the ride the gauge reading drops about 40 degrees.  Something internal to the gauge overheating and increasing resistance is my guess.  Dealer has had 3 attempts to correct, claimed it was the sensor and had to order a replacement, starting the day after I picked the bike up.  Somehow they have managed to go an entire year without getting the part and notifying me, even though I've reminded them several times (I've never dealt with a less competent bunch of folks in my life).  I put it on the back burner when I thought the MoCo might come out with the oil temp gauge, but since that seems to have fallen through I've got to at least make this thing work. I'm going to replace the sensor with a fixed resistor to test the dealer's theory - if the sensor is bad, installing the fixed resister will make the gauge read one temp all the time.  If the gauge is bad, it will start out at that one temp and then drop off 40 degrees just like it has since day one.

The instructions that come with the new dipstick say to rotate it counterclockwise while pulling up rather than just pulling it straight out as you do with the stock dipstick.
Bob
Tbone,
Hell man I got to do that to the stock one most times anyways! It likes to seal itself in place once it's in there for a short time. So this will be a common thing with the new one. All cool. But as i've read I'll take mione out and put in the stock one for service times.

Jerry,
Dude I can say that your dealer may revival what I seem to have now, with these new owners. But I'll give them the benefit of a confused start-up and with hopes of a good dealer to come out of it.
My gauge isn't go that going on as yours is.. to weird why it's not replaced yet!
So its an electrical sensor and not a fluid bulb, that's good!! And you going to do exactly what I was going to do in the same spot. Can't see that it could only be better than it's current position.
I've I get to mine first, I'll let you know how it works out, I can only think way more accurate.

Spyder .. I missed that one way back... well, the RK used a lot of oil, so it was a natural. I carried at least a qt with me all the time. Used Amsoil and couln't find it many places.  On the bright side, oil always looked clean!
