CB Plus Wireless Configuration Solutions...
« on: January 21, 2011, 07:08:21 AM »

I've been trying to figure out if there is a quality solution to this problem...

I've had a CB installed in my 11 FLHXSE2, going to install the RoadTech 660 (fairing mounted), want to integrate iPhone 4 for calls, but I want to do this with a wireless solution (no 7-pin leashes). I've been dumbfounded in finding a solution and almost considered mounting both a wireless bluetooth and 7-pin headset in the same helmet to accomplish all.

Today, I came acrosss a J&M solution (found on E-Glide Goodies http://www.eglidegoodies.com/id341.html ). It has a harness and dongle that apparently accomplish this task in conjunction with the J&M's proprietary BT headset.

This now presents several questions to pose here...Has anyone used or know someone who's using this system? Are there any other system / solutions to my problem out there? Will I need a BOMM for this to enable phone calls?

Any and all input is greatly appreciated. Someone always seems to have an answer here. Thanks y'all.

Other than the E-Glide Goodies link that's in that last post and what's on that page, nothing else...I will go to J&M's page and try to find out more though. I was surprised that it exists. I've been wondering when someone would figure it out. I'm willing to bet that someone here has some answers or experience with it.

Ok, so here's what I've found out so far...(a quick disclaimer...I'm not hocking these wares, this is just something I'm interested in and thought I'd share)...

The previous link had J&M's version 3 of the blu-hub or dongle...on J&M's site they have the 5th generation and newest version and here's what they had to say...

This is a J&M custom Blu<>Hub® dongle05 module featuring our exclusive JMAHP (J&M Motorcycle Audio Headset Profile) Bluetooth® software profile, transmitting true stereo to 1 or 2 J&M Bluetooth headsets, with simultaneous microphone signals transmitted back down to the dongle.
When 2 J&M Bluetooth headsets are linked to the dongle05, the continuous helmet-to-helmet intercom feature is activated thru the dongle.
Rider and passenger can also each simultaneously link their J&M Bluetooth helmet headsets to their own cell phone or Garmin Zumo, while linked to the dongle05.
This dongle05 is used to create a full featured motorcycle audio system, with stereo music, CB/FRS, Navigation commands, cell phone etc available depending upon the capabilities of the external equipment being connected.
The J&M Dongle05 is powered by the electrical system on the motorcycle (no batteries in the dongle to charge).
This new dongle can be connected to most motorcycle audio system configurations by using one of the special connection harnesses offered as an extra cost accessory to this custom dongle.

This works with the iPhone, Droid, and Google Phone, will allow you to utilize helmet to helmet intercom, hear HD stereo and CB in stereo, communicate with Mic on all platforms, and hear Nav System, all wirelessly via Blu-tooth utilizing this Dongle and J&M's Clamp-on BT Headset...I'm all for losing the 7-pin leash and gaining all that other functionality.

I personally have been using the Chatterbox XBi2 and it is an interesting unit that does a lot. I have used it only on one trip so far and it worked well except for one problem with volume. At speeds over 65 it was hard to hear But I think that had more to do with the speaker placement than anything else. Here are some links for more reading:

My big thing was integrating HD CB with all the other stuff...so far, I think that J&M is the only one out there to integrate that into the mix. Gotta have the CB for runnin Road Gaurd.

Doc;

What is the pricing for all this "stuff"?  You need the dongle thing, a Blutooth headset and some type of adapter in the 7-pin?

Jim from J&M is on the HDFORUMS site and should chime in to give some advice on this to all of us as well.  Interesting read.  Probably going to cost me more $$$$

I thought I read somewhere those dongles only work with J&M headsets.    It does sound interesting, but I have to wonder about battery life with any wireless setup.  Heck, I'm lucky if the charge on my phone lasts all day

All...it would be great to get Jim's input here, but thanks to SklyWag I've got Jim's number and I might try to reach him personally. The only problem with that is I'm currently forward deployed, so this forum would not only be more convenient; it would benefit all.

@cwright2...I haven't tried HD's BT solution, but it looks like timo482 has and it's not favorable, but avoidable...lol

@Arctic John...zero 7-pin involvement. You must utilize J&M's BT headset. I don't know if there is a solution yet for those whom have that type of headset already installed. I originally started this search with the full acceptance that in order to accomplish what I wanted; I would have to set up two seperate systems w/in one helmet...not an attractive idea by far. In regards to pricing...it ain't cheap, but what did you expect? Here is the link for what I've found on J&M's site http://www.jmcorp.com/SeeProducts.asp?PF=30 Scroll down for products and pricing.

@hogsty...Yes, only with the J&M headset...In regards to battery life, Control head is powered by a rechargeable Lithium Ion/Polymer power cell providing 9-13 hours of use from a full charge (12-16 hours with the optional fat battery). I dont' know about you, but I don't plan on being in the saddle for more than 12 hours. So, it seems like it would work for me. The good news is that this new generation of dongle is wired in, unlike previous versions that utilized a battery also. So, I guess there's that.

@All...Does anyone know how to get Jim a view of this thread?

This looks like what we've all been waiting for, however, I don't see a connecting harness for the Blu-Hub to the Harley system yet.  I do see one for a Wing, but not for a Harley yet.  Anybody spoken with Jim at J&M yet?

Good catch...I didn't see that, just assumed when they said most that HD would be included...I need to get some questions together and someone will pose them to Jim for us...that will be one of them. Any others off the top of your head?
