need help with noise
« on: January 23, 2011, 03:30:07 PM »

Just thought I'd ask anyone if they have ever had a "moaning" sound at 50-60 mph.  It seems to go away at higher speeds. I have a rear Metzler ME880 the is very worn out in the middle.. Could it be the tire?  I would wear out a Dunlop and never hear a thing, if it is the tire. I was thinking it was comming from the motor or transmission, but it goes away as the bike is slowing down and still there when i squeeze the clutch. only at 50-60. Brakes seem smooth, i'll be replacing pads soon also.  The pressure in that tire is at 45#. Thanks for any help anyone has for me.

It certainly could be the tire.   :nixweiss:  And since that is a major safety issue why not start by replacing it?

My Dunlops had a very noticable noise at 50.  I think it could very well be the tire.

It could very well be the tire. I've wore out quite a few dunlops and they always let me know. The ba$tards start singing. :nervous:

Stu, that noise is your signal.  It's time for you to cross over from the dark side and get a new one. ;D

Could be the sound of the asphalt gods telling you your going to crash if you don't get a new tire.  I had one with wires on it that had loose spokes, drove me nuts hunting the noise down.

New Metzler should be here any day now..I'm sure that will take care of the issue. :)

Dammit, Papa!  I was just going to mention that at certain RPM's, my wife starts out with a soft moaning sound, then with increased speed she turns
into a screamer!  Just sayin"!! :P

See you live in Fla.

We always wear out the sidewalls first in Tennessee. Maybe we need to start swapping tires when there shot. :vrolijk_10:

Sounds like a plan to me.   Maybe they were over inflated.  Good friend of mine told me that I should keep 45-48 psi in them.  Maybe that was too much.  I'm gonna try a little less this time.  I have a new one going on tomorrow.

I'm heading there in the morning.  Is it still there?   If it is maybe I'll make an offer.
Who knows....
