Sorry for your bad luck man, you should have cleaned them out of anything that fit you or your bike when you were there, beats suing and a guaranteed quick return.  Of course you do have to be able to intimidate the entire staff as well.

Dude that sucks. I guess that's why the dealer closed!

Sadly this is true!

So when the shop warned you the bike needed to be picked up before legal issues gobbled things up did you think your own proceedings later might be more of those issues?  Or you just going to say "screw it" and be done with them?

Don, I've been in the legal arena for many years. This is a "screw it" issue. The shop owner has nothing left.  These folks treated me right for many years. I perfer to remember them for those times, not for their demise. A drowning man will reach out and pull whatever he can under with them as they die.  JMO.

By the time I got to the shop to pick up my scooter, the entire staff was one old guy and his son.

I appreciate the support of my fellow members as to what happened in this incident. And I understand your comments about the dealer. I too am f..ing unhappy but have decide to move on to fixing Lexi..again.

However, the purpose of my posting on this is to pass along some information on the new tensioner system. I am uncertain how and/or why the damn things failed but failed they did. Jim found them assembled as per HD instructions when he opened the cam chest. However, they had no play in them, they were solid as a rock.

After he reassembled them, they had the play in them they are supposed to have.  :nixweiss:

If I didn't have so much wrapped up in this already, I'd put gear drive cams in and eliminate the problem.

Understand completely.  Cheers from the bleachers are usually to man up and beat the other guy in to the ground.  Sue 'em then sue their pets; just for good measure.  Sometimes there's nothing left to sue for though.  And sometimes it's just more hassle than it'd ever be worth.  Get saner quicker just saying "screw it" and going on your way to making yourself happy.

Is the plan to have Lexi up and running for spring?  Or take it really slow and easy and let the rest of the stable get you by?

I've always sucked at "slow and easy". She's already split open and being cleaned out. hd-dude told me the 3 stage oil pump is supposed to be damn good, so I'm getting one shipped to Jim with a OEM cam plate. The billet one got scored by the tensioner grit. It will make nice looking garbage.

I'm going to have to work on the saner part too!

 3 stage oil pump

Is that the new pump from (hope I remember this right) TMan?  Have only heard the name and the vaguest of details.  How's it better?

(no, don't have an oil pump in the pile of Road King parts yet)

T-Man is one source. A dude name Thayer is the guy who came up with it. This is from T-Man's web site.

This pump is designed to scavage the flywheel and cam areas individually, which results in a mark improvement in oil scavaging and control of vacuum within the engine. This allows the engine to run freer at extended high RPMs for extended times.

Precision machined to provide consistent oil pressure and improve oil flow, resulting in maximum oil system performance. This pump has been dyno tested at T-Man Performance with results demonstrating it's superior scavaging performance. Field proven at Bonneville Salt Flats when achieving World Records in the 1650 cc class.

*Due to the high precision tolerances this pump is manufactured to, no more than .0035" pinion runout should be allowed. Greater runout than .0035" may cause damage to the pump, which is not covered under warranty. It is strongly recommended that the engine's crank assembly be trued and welded to prevent excessive pinion runout.

"Of all the pumps I have tested over the years, this pump offers superior performance results. I am so pleased with the performance of this pump, that I strongly recommend it for all engine builds and oil pump upgrades." TR Reiser"

hd-dude said it works very well. Since I've had an oil issue with this scooter twice, I'm trying this 3 stage pump.

Thanks Jeff.  Guess I'd only heard the name as all the details seem new to me.  If Jim says it's good we all know it is though.

Have used the Feuling pieces for so long it's hard to fix something that isn't broken though.  Will have to do some homework before the next engine gets built.

And another one bites the dust.

Lexi's bitten more dust than I like to remember. However, I'm stubborn and will not give up on her.

The 3-stage Thayer pumps work very well.
Designed and manufactured by Dan Thayer of New York state.
Main distributor/dealers are T-Man and R&R.
Ron H. (PoorBoy) of Tennessee sells them as well.

On various builds, I've had to work hard to get a shot glass worth of oil when I've done sump checks with them.
Can't really say that with the other pumps.
The pressure-feed and cam chest scavenge stages are well up to the task also.

Jeff, as you know, you're now in competent professional hands with Jim K.

Hi John

Thanks for the heads up on Jim K. We got the TTS.  :2vrolijk_21:  Jim's staying on top of this and keeping me informed with phone calls and text. Maybe he can break the jinx that has plaqued this scooter.
