My BSR and I both wear half helmets. We started out on a trip from Southern Oregon to Reno with a brand new pair of the Boom Audio headsets. By the time we made it to Reno (~325 mi. or so) both of the headsets had crapped out!

Agree they are uncomfy as heck too!
Shortly after that we bought a couple of the J&M headsets w/microphones (for half helmets) and mounted them to the helmet strap webbing on our helmets. You can pick the sound quality by how much you want to spend -better sound = more $$$

You also have to buy the correct curly cord to fit a Harley too. Those things ain't cheap either!

We got the best (most expensive) models and have been relatively happy with them. They did press on our ears and make them sore at first, but then my BSR made some oval pads out of some thick material similar to polar fleece stuff. (Maybe that's what it is...

) The pads help both with comfort and with sound quality. Before she made the pads we had quite a bit of wind noise from air flow between the helmet webbing/speakers, and our ears. The pads took care of that and are much softer pressed up against our ears.
We also ride with (foam) ear plugs, and the sound quality is still danged good!
