Blacking Out 2009 Orange FLTRSE3
« on: January 28, 2011, 11:47:26 AM »

I'm thinking of painting my chrome windshield trim satin black, and painting the chrome engine covers wrinkle black. Has anyone done this? I would like to see what it looks like before I do it.

I saw one where everything was orange, rims, bars etc.. it looked - wel  uh - not my idea of a nice looking bike. My friend has on with Black lowers that looks pretty hot.

You probably already thought of this but if you can't get pictures how about using some black tape to see how it would look.  Not perfect but it would give you the idea, I think.

There is an old thread on here that has pictures of a member who had the accessory chrome windshield trim powdercoated black on his orange and it looked nice. Also a member got the 2010 black/chrome accent rims and that looks good on an orange too. I haven't seen anyone black out the motor yet though on a 2009.

I have the same bike as you- I see you're from Winnipeg- I bought it used last year in Winnipeg, and rode it home- but, I plan on powdercoating the engine guards black, but that's as far as I want to go.

The bike is actually a 2010 Ultra Limited that I am making in to a Road Glide. I bought an Electric Orange CVO paint kit and most of the other CVO specific parts, so it's going to be a replica. A real FLTRSE3 engine is grey, so it's difficult to black it out. I think I just may paint the windshield trim black and leave the engine the way it is. Maybe I'll buy a SE120R next year and black it out.

North Star I think there bikes are pretty rare in Winnipeg. I know of two silver bikes and I saw an orange one a couple of years ago. Maybe it was yours?

I bought mine in April 2009 from the original owner named Jack- he was about 50 yrs old, lived in Steinbach I believe.

I guess if you really had to paint them black, powder coating would be the way to go.  Wrinkle black should stay in the rattle can (just my opinion).
Post 'em when you're done.

I'd be inclined to take a digital photo of the bike and run it through photoshop. While not necessarily perfect, it would give you a real good idea of what the final product would look like before you spend a bunch of time and money and it - - ummm, errrrrrrr, ahhhhhhhhh doesn't please you in the end.

I'd like to see an Orange Black 09 SERG with full blacked out forks.  Been thinking of doing mine.

This is my old bike, I had everything powder coated gloss black as I worked on it. Including the inner and outer primary and derby covers. Was pretty sharp and I am sure I will miss it.

Thanks

each to his own, life is short, ....if I wanted to add this & that & paint this and that I would not have purchased a CVO, again do whatever clicks your bic,  ...the more everyone changes them the more mine is worth.  :pepper: :pepper:

I painted the rocker and cam cover wrinkle black. I left the transmission and primary chrome. The bike is really an Ultra Limited so if it was a real CVO it would be way too much work to black out the complete engine.
