« on: February 01, 2011, 05:50:41 PM »

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has any comments regarding the amount of mileage they got comparing Metzler,Michelin, compared to Dunlop brand tires. Thanks. CAHDBIKER

The New Dunlop 407, 408's get excellent mileage. The New rubber compound.... Now before is a different situation. I would say they all were about the same for me...

I like Metzlers, for the handling never had Michelins. You have to keep the Metzlers at the correct pressure or they will wear quick, but so far the best handling tire I've had on my bikes.

What pressure do you run?  I just mounted a set of 880's.  The spec calls for 42 psi, but the Metzler dealer recommends 45/48 psi.

Just me, but I run mine at 42, but the dealer should know best. I got lazy on summer and didn't check mine for a while and the back wore out really quick. I check them every week now and the last a lot longer, but still ware faster than other tires but I like the bite they give in turns, we ride a lot on twisty mountain roads and the Dunlaps that came with my RK just didn't grab as well. I'm due for another set soon.

Scot...when I ran those on the SEUC, I'd run 45 unloaded, and 48 loaded.  From first hand experience....once the 880's get down to about 4/32nds, change them if you plan on doing any longish trips.  They wear quickly once down to that tread depth.  Don't even ask how I know that... :nervous:

They are a great handling tire though.  I haven't had an opportunity to put the new Dunlops through any kind of real twisties, so we'll see if they stay on the bike past the first set.  The Metz's, compared to the older Dunflops, were like night and day to me.

I had the Metzlers on my old bike and i loved the handling.  My buddie had them on his Ultra and he loved the handling but hated the wear.  He often tours and rides 2 up so more weight.  He switched to the Michellins and he is now on his second set.  He absolutely loves the tires.  He rides about 15,000 miles a year!
