Thank you all for your expressions of sympathy - most especially for Bob and his family. Attended visitation last evening (having visitation again tonight for those who could not make it last evening). The funeral is Sunday at 2 pm. Bob was a long time H.O.G. member (a former director of our chapter), founding member of local Rolling Thunder chapter, member of VFW, a Mason and a Shriner and a member of the Patriot Guard. So we are expecting quite a large turnout and maybe upwards of 300 motorcycles if the weather holds out.
I learned a little more from a mutual friend who used to ride escort with him. The precession was preparing for a left-hand turn and after having cleared his intersection, Bob was hightailing it to get back in front of the group to block the next intersection so he was to the right of the cars in the procession. That of course made it difficult for the lady turning left to see him. But that is just the point isn't it? She should not have violated the integrity of the funeral procession. Had she not Bob would still be with us. Just a damn shame.
He was absolutely the very LAST person I would have ever thought something like this would happen to. I truthfully have never seen a better rider than Bob. He could do things on that bike that are equal to the best police rodeo and drill team riders and he had trained and ridden as such. He rode aggressively - you have to if you perform escort duty. But he was careful. That this could happen to him just drives home the point that it could happen to any one of us. Ride safe and be careful - the bastards ARE out to get us!
