Run around from thedealer
« on: February 03, 2011, 12:52:40 AM »

Aloha can any one tell me why or if it's only the dealers in Hawaii that keep giving us the run around. I have a few paint defects on my street glide and I just can't get them to do anything about it. After paying 34,000 dollars for my bike, I should except my bike to be perfect and I don't think that it's unreasonable. Is there a procedure for getting them to do there job. You would think that if you asked them they would just do it. Any help would be appreciated.

Howzit... Did you notice the defects in the paint before you took delivery?

Get some good digital photos of the paint issues.  Call HD Customer Service and describe the problem:  414-343-4056.  Tell them you have complained to the dealer to no avail. Tell them you want to e mail pictures of the paint set to show them the defects.  They will send you an e mail you can respond to and attach the photos.  It is some times difficult to make the defects show up in pictures so you may need someone who is good at photography and lighting.    Be polite but persistent.  See if you can get a new paint set sent out so the bike won't be down.  Good luck!

Greg has given you great advice. I'm sorry that your having those problems with your dealer. On the other hand on my 09 FLTRSE3 my dealer noticed the defects right away and got replacement parts ordered before I took the bike home.

It does not matter if you have taken the bike home or not.  The best advice is to be persisitant.  I had the same issue with my SERG.  They finally did the right thing.  Good luck!

This is ALL you need to do. As Greg said, be polite but be persistent. It may and probably will take longer than you think it should, but if you stay after it and stay courteous, you will prevail.

Actually it does... you do a pre-delivery inspection and you note all the defects at that time to all the issues can be addressed prior to you leaving the dealer.

Normally dealers here will have you go over and sign a vehicle inspection sheet, noting any or all defects PRE-delivery.

If you sign-off saying no problems, then they are off the hook. You already accepted the vehicle in the existing condition.

HD may or may not accept a claim made after the bike leaves the dealer. You can TRY the above advice.. but no gaurantees you'll make headway.

to the OP... which dealer was it?.... CC, SS or D's ?

I feel for you! That's beaucuop bucks for a bike. The defective paint job is a quality issue that HD has and should be resolved by the dealer and HD, in my opinion! I also had a paint issue that I did not notice until I had my 2009 CVO FatBob at home. I had finger prints under the clear coat. I pointed them out to the dealer and they ordered a replacement tank. When that tank arrived it had a chip on it and the dealer informed me they where going to send it back and get it right. I live in Lafayette,Louisiana. I hope your dealer will make it right for you.

Sounds like you bought from Cycle City... who was your salesman? You may be able to work through him or the sales manager, but dont delay.

IF they are obvious paint defects (runs, bald spots, etc.) those are pretty obviously mfgs defects.

Dont call, go down there and speak with them.

I hear ya about the dealers,  Sat down yesterday to sign for a Convertible then it was oh by the way the interest rate is 1% more than we told you and it's only a $6 a month difference so I double checked and it was a $12-13 a month difference.  I told them to put the bike back on the floor.  His response "We have to make money to you know".  I felt like wrapping a chain around the building and bringing it down with my truck (yeah I know, impossible but let me have my moment  8) ).

As if they are NOT making ANY money. That ticks me off right there. They let you leave over 1% too didn't they? Truth is (usually) you were approved at the original rate and they were bumping you for a "kick back" for lack of a better term. My dealer got me approved and then went to bat for an extra 3% off on the rate because me beacon was so close to the next tier level. Took him about 45 minutes but he got it. That's why I drive 100 miles to them instead of dealing local.

Sorry to hear this.  :(

Yep, they let me walk.  I got on the phone to my credit union and to 3 other shops that had what I was looking for. I was just about ready to apply for the credit union loan and that shop called back (3 days later) and offered the bike $730 less and they where able to get me a 4.7% loan.  They told me the owner made the decision.  Well what ever the case I did buy the bike.  Red CVO Convertible.  I actually got it cheaper than I set out to by $800.  Yes I was mad but I also told them I would buy the bike if they made the difference of $730 up.  A man of my word.  Heck even if they gave me a gift card for the shop worth $730 I would have bought the bike  :nixweiss:

That's all you can ask for. I don't blame them for trying to wait and sell the bike to make more money, part of business. But whats not part of business is they made you a deal for a certain amount or interest rate and tried to change it up at the last minute. Glad it worked out for you!  :2vrolijk_21:
