Shocks Again!
« on: February 03, 2011, 01:06:23 PM »

I know like other topics posted here this one has been beat to death. But I've been putting off new shocks for my RKC, it sits an 1" lower like the CVO RK, I have Ricor's in the front end, I ride 85% of the time one up and ride a lot of twisties. I will sacrifice a little confort for better control, but still want to be able to ride all day without kidney failure. I saw a lot of threads last season where people put on PS 940, Works, and Suspension Technologies shocks, before you say it I'm not going Bitubo. Some updated the threads a little, but now after a full riding season how do you like these shocks? I'm leaning towards the Works shocks, but if you have any of these please let me know what you really think. I don't need to know their better than the stock shocks, almost anything is! Also if you have the Works shocks what options did you chose, ARS, TPL, DRS?

Thanks Craig

I bought 13" Steel Trackers with DRS and ARS but did not do that well until they were sent back and they added TPL where I could properly adjust the sag..  Works is good to work with and am now happy with the ride/handling of the bike.  Have AK20's on the front.  Hope this helps.  They also work well with my bushtec hitch for clearance for the shocks (between the shocks and the hitch brackets).

Not sure why you are not going Bitubos. I used  Progressive 440 for 2 years never really happy. I ride solo 190 #s  I changed to Bitubos and the ride and adjustments are 100 % better. I have neck and lower back issues and these are better and cheaper than a chiropractor.  I felt like I wasted money on the 440's  When I was trying to save. Billy

Bitubos are great shock, but I don't think the are worth twice the price of the Works or 940's. I won't buy the 440's, just looking at the 940's.

My 08 SERK has the WORKS Street Trackers in chrome with black springs and their Billet Adjustable Rate Suspension on her for close to two riding seasons. The are extremely easy to adjust from solo with little gear to the two up loaded down with cosmetics and hair dryer status. Never bottom out. The lady likes em too.

I like that they are the 13 inch version but only slightly (less than 1/2") raised the back end. Much better range of travel for a better ride. Look good too.

These are much better than the 440's I've ridden. They are also better than the Ricor's on my 02 SERK which I've adjusted as many ways as possible and still can't get em right. I can bottom these out and they ride harsh.

After AK 20 and Bitubos I have Had many HD tech and personal friends  with baggers ride my bike and all thought the handling and comfort of ride was unbelievable.  My personal tech said better than any thing he has ever ridden. Still to bad HD can't do it it is a touring bike . Billy

I'm sure the AT 20's and Bitubos are fantastic, but the Ricor Intiminator's in my front end were a great improvement for $200, and I don't want to spend over $800 on shocks when I can make a great improvement for around $550. This is just me, I think I'll be happy with this combo. I also have a bagger brace on my RK and it made a big difference on the old style frame. Anybody got any comments on he PS 940's or the Suspension Technologies shocks? JW, the 13" Works will raise my bike about 1/2"? That's not bad, give me a little more lean angle!! I have a 30" inseam so don't want to go any higher than that, plus I like the lower look.

Neal you need to install them before the warm weather, so you can ride them when it's warm. I was luck having the RK, no fairing to contend with, the whole process for the Ricor's took just over 2.5 hrs. The hardest part was getting the caps back on the forks with no fork tool! Wife held the fork while I pressed the springs back into the fork with the cap.

It was real cold here, but warming up, we have about 3" on the ground, should melt by Monday, but the dam magchloride keeps me from riding very much, slippery as snail snot!
