Did the stealer do the service on the bike?  They are supposed to grease the neck bearings if they do the service, and if so, they might have put too much grease in the neck  :nixweiss:

Actually, it's not possible to "put too much grease in the neck".  The whole idea with the grease fitting is to pump in grease until it oozes out at both the top and bottom.  And this is not how the factory greases the steering head bearings, they just install prelubed bearings.  So if there is a huge glob of grease laying on top of the lower bracket, I'd suggest it came from your dealer not cleaning up behind themselves after servicing the bike.

BTW, in hot weather it's pretty common for some liquid to ooze out as well.  Good idea to mop up in there every once in a while.  Maybe in another century or so Harley will consider using seals to keep the lube where it belongs.

And the moisture and dirt out.

Consider yourself lucky that yours was greased.  Most of us pumped nearly a tube of grease in the neck to get it to appear at the bottom as yours is.  Clean it off and ride.

Jerry is right...it's really not possible to put "too much" in there, and I should have clarified my statement a bit.  You WANT to be able to see just a bit ooze out when greasing the neck so you'll know it's full, but you do have to wipe up after doing so.  And he's also right in that some will come out when it's really hot outside in the form of a thick liquid.  Harley putting sealed bearings in?   :huepfenlol2:

I quit using the extra special double secret full of voodoo (and dare I say double expensive) Harley blue grease because it does run in hot weather.  I just use a good quality grease from the auto parts store - Auto Zone, Advance Auto, etc., and find that it works just fine and does not run in hot weather.
