Softail BCM Recall
« on: February 06, 2011, 10:04:09 AM »

I don't know if this effects CVOs, but it likely does. Didn't hit me. No security system.

The link in the above post makes it sound like this only affects bikes that had the security system added.  The official recall notice from NHTSA, however, makes no such distinction.  See attachment.

the previous version (of 01/28/2011) can be found for example here.

The Wording was a little different: " ... CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 SOFTAIL MOTORCYCLES MANUFACTURED FROM JUNE 7, 2010, THROUGH OCTOBER 8, 2010, WHICH HAVE HAD A SECURITY SYSTEM KIT INSTALLED AS AN ACCESSORY"

For 4 month only 7.000 softails seems a little low number too.

I think it must include factory installed security systems as well as dealer installed. It says that HD will notify owners of the recall. They wouldn't necessarly know if it was installed at the dealer. They can probably track who got the effected BCMs. Owners through the VIN and dealers through parts purchaces.
Or, they could just notify everybody with a softail.

I would say I received my notice for my '11 convertible probably around the 1st of February.  Stays in the garage all the time except when it is out tearing up pavement so I am not too worried just yet about getting it fixed.  But will soon.  Mine was delivered about the 8th of october so guess it is in the recall also.  Pork.

I did get a recall letter on my 2011 non CVO. They must be looking at all the Softails just in case.
